Have You Ever Been to the Drag Races?

My Oldest Step-Son Drag Racing

I can blame my husband for this! He started drag racing when we were first married, 30 years ago. Hubby has always raced something, motorcycles, cars, we have even had lawn mower races! He bought his first race car in 198, I believe it was a 1970 Chevelle and he won rookie of the year with it at our local race track. When his oldest son turned 16, hubby gave him that car and he bought a faster one. For years, hubby and his oldest son have both been racing rear engine dragsters. As hubby's son now has a daughter who is 13 and a son who is 10 and both of them are racing what is called "junior dragsters". Apparently, my daughter in law didn't want to be left out, so last year she bought her a race car and now races with them! They are all after me to get myself a race car and race with them! I guess I just don't understand "the need for speed"! Just watching them scares the "rain" right out of me! Have you ever been to the drag races and are you one that would enjoy racing?

No, I have never been to the drag races, but I lived in Monte-Carlo for 25 years, I have seen from my windows all the F1 car races.

@sgbrown Yes, once in your life is amazing, during 25 years had become a nightmare, seven days of horrible noise.

@LadyDuck I can't imagine having to listen to all that noise for 7 days!

This is the first time I heard about drag races. I have never been any races before, I am not so interested. It seems like it has become your family sport activity, which is quite good.

@sgbrown Yes, that must be really scary to watch that. I guess you just have to trust their skills and pray for them.

@kaka135 It is fun to watch until one of them has a crash or even a close call! It used to be just hubby I had to worry about, now it is almost my entire family!

@kaka135 I always stand at the starting line and try to cover all my bases. I cross my fingers for luck and say a prayer too!

@kellyr634 I enjoyed it for about the first 20 years, now I have to admit I am a bit tired of it! Perhaps because I have so many people to worry about now!

They are both fun to watch, @TiarasOceanView , if you don't have anyone you care about doing the driving!

I'm with you. I don't see the need for speed. Cars are too dangerous for taking chances.

I agree, @irenen1 "Poop" happens fast enough! I have seen hubby crash once while going over 100 miles an hour! I NEVER want to see that again!

I think I'd probably enjoy it but it's easy to say so sitting here. At the race-track it might be different.

@JudyEv It is all very exciting to watch and hear, if you don't have someone you care about in the event! Otherwise, it is very nerve racking!

I once dated a guy who was into the drags @sgbrown . He would have me sitting on the sidelines taking down the times of everybody. Talk about deafening!
