Adult Dream Come True

My new washer and dryer

For the last forty five years I have been dragging my laundry to a local laundromat. I yearned for the day I would be able to have my own washer/dryer. Most apartments do not allow tenants to house their own laundry appliances because of extensive damage and the fact that coinop machines can be installed for added income. One of my happiest adult moments was doing my first load of laundry in my own washer and dryer in my own basement.

Happy for you. I hand wash all my laundry. It is a tedious task, but has to be done.

@RayD Been there, too. Another reason to rejoice at having my own machines.

i hated going to laundromats. especially when they were all used up or you had to wait on someone to unload their clothing .

A day had to be set aside for doing laundry. Now it is part of daily chores. I love not having to wash in previous user's rinse water. Also don't have to worry about bringing home roaches or bedbugs.

@irenen1 i thought the machine would be drained before the next user

@hereandthere Energy saving had the newer machines use the previous rinse water to wash the next load. That fact seems to have gotten shoved under a rock lately. Right up there with Hot Water not running hot.

@HomeBase To think someone waits a few months and these people have waiting 40 years, wow.

I know right? 40 years!? Makes the few years that I've been craving a washer and dryer seem like child's play.

@Marcyaz Makes me think twice about things, that's for sure. I don't even have it all that bad, my laundry room is close, but I still long for my own machines.

Does that mean that you just bought a house?

@irenen1 What a blessing that you bought a house! Congratulations That is something that I want to do as well. I really love the apartment that I live in, but having my own house as well as having my own washing machine and dryer so that I can wash anytime of the day or night that I want, is a dream of mine.

What a simple pleasure and I'm so pleased for you. I was probably an adult before I used a laundromat.

That would be nice. I have gone out to do laundry in the coinop places for so many years. It sure got old. We have an apartment now that has a washer and dryer. Also a dish washer. It sure is nice. Especially now that I don't drive and have no transportation.

I'm soooo happy for you. I Iong for a washer and dryer of my own. I can imagine how elated you must feel now that this dream is a reality for you. Having a washer and dryer makes a huge difference in day to day life. I used to have a new washer and dryer (they were lovely, lol), but lost them due to bad management of my possessions. Hopefully I will get a chance to get another set in the not-too-distant future.

I'm pleased for you - I hate using public machines.
