Well, it's broken!

The other day my 8 year old son fell off the monkey bars, so I took him to the emergency room. His wrist was swollen, but not bruised. I just had a feeling that it was broken. Several years ago I had a similar situation with his oldest brother.
So we waited for a long time only to get the verdict: his growth plate in his wrist is broken! Poor kiddo! I feel so bad for him, especially because we can't get into the ortho until Monday! The temporary cast they put on him in the hospital is much bigger than the one he'll get on Monday and he's miserable. He wakes up in the night crying because of the pain. It is so sad! Can't wait for Monday!

I feel sorry for him two, both of my boys broke a leg when they were young, it's not fun for anyone. Wishing a speedy recovery for your son.

if he were my son id tell him that its good that he broke his wrist now, than to break it when hes 16 . . .
. (dud joke?) i hope the pain doesnt get too bad as the swelling lessens. did he get something for the pain, or did they just say to take some over the counter pain reliever?

So sorry this happened. Is it more serious because it is in the growth plate?

At least you listened and were prompt about getting him help. I fell on ice when I was a kid and yup, I whined about it. Two weeks later: me still whining. Finally got to a doc and found I'd broken my collar bone but by then the doc said he'd have to rebreak it so just put the arm in a sling and be done with it.

Oh wow, that's awful! I think it is a 6th sense lol. I know when there is something wrong with them. His dad and my husband were both thinking that I was being melodramatic and it was probably just sprained. I said, "I don't think so. I am pretty sure it is broken." I don't like being right, but I'm glad we went in when we did.
