Everyone wants their discussion to go viral on MyLot but not everyone makes it. Why? It’s hard to say what will go viral from one day to the next. It depends on who is on the site when your topic is posted. There are a few topics that seem to go viral most of the time. 1. Controversy 2. Shocking World News 3. Money 4. Blocking 5. Horror stories 6. Disputes 7. Life drama 8. MyLot drama 9. Violence 10. Tips. Tricks, and How-To-MyLot I do notice when you write one or two viral discussion your daily earnings can jump drastically. However, on the other hand if you write an average discussion your earnings will slowly creep up. So now it’s up to you to craft a viral discussion on MyLot. Here is a few subjects you can start with. What other topics or subjects have you noticed that goes viral on MyLot? Do you think this topic will go viral? Personally I don’t. There isn’t enough juicy meat in here to make it go viral. This discussion needs a little more Tabloid news to strike up interest here on the site. This one is lacking a lot of juicy information. What I want to know, who decides, what is the criterion for an 'Interesting Discussion '?

You do. Here the site member decide on what the criteria is for an interesting discussion. It is up to each one of the members here on the site to do this. We all decide on this one in a few ways - how many likes you have been given to the discussion and how many people have commented on it. The more like, comments, and interactions decided on who moves up and which posts receive the most attention on the site. I think they call this a democratic voting system. We the people here on this site decide what we want to comment on and what we want to like.

You are deciding. It is the tags that you or others have given in your own discussions, and the tags in your responses/comments that are used to choose the discussions displayed under "Interesting". These discussions are different for every member. Tags in a discussion are also used to choose the discussions you see in the "You Might Also Like" box on the right of your screen, but these discussions are the same for all members.

Mine are usually about things happening in my life, or around me. You just never know what will interest someone.

This one is good. I decided to be funny today and add viral to my headline. I knew viral is an eye catching word. I also know that viral is not something that actually happens here on this site. Each day posts get attention and each day we see new posts attracting attention. We never see the millions of viewers like on YouTube that have made a video famous by sharing it all over the world.

I'm not to worried if my post do not go viral or not. I get enough traffic on my post and that's all that matters. I mostly just write for me anyways and try to give tips etc at times as well.

Yes I can understand this one. I was just being funny today by calling posts viral. I know no post really goes viral here on the site. I know some posts do receive more attention and comments and that is about it. Viral is for blog posts and also for YouTube. I was basically being funny when I wrote this post. Plus the word viral is an eye catcher and people want to see what makes viral so they open it and read it. This also proves a second point that titles attract readers.

I have never analysed the topics from 1-10 but I have observed that the ones that get the hits are the stories that are sad. Broken hearts get a lot of attention - perhaps we like to give advice like agony aunts. Memories get responses from people who have lived long enough to have acquired some interesting ones.

Yes this one is very true. I also think it is hit and miss. I didn't even realize I did a 1 to 10 list. I was just basically listing post or topic I had noticed got a lot of attention here on the site.

That is interesting because some of the topics you mention I am not generally interested in, but others, like site drama and blocking always seem to garner an exceptional number of responses.

@poehere even the posts on myLot that gather much interaction, are far short of a truly viral post. I think popular is a more fitting description. I think you have identified some of the more popular types of posts on myLot. I can think of a few others. When you say that when you write viral discussion or two, earnings jump drastically. Can you define drastically?

See viral was a good word. It got your attention. Here on MyLot viral isn't the same as on YouTube. Here on this site viral can be as many as 50 to 80 comments. A lot of interaction and a lot of discussion. Define jumping - Example - on any given day a post that has around 10 to 20 comments and not a lot of repeat comments can earn around 0.20 from the site. Now don't quote me on exact amount of money please. I am giving an example like you said. Now a post that has around 50 + comments, attracts a lot of repeat comments, and a lot of attention can make close to 0.90 in one day. Now again don't quote me as being exact numbers, These are given estimates and each day they can change. I have seen a few of my discussion that have 50+ comments earn as high as 0.95 in one day. I have also seen a few of them earn over 1 dollars. It depends on the interaction rate too. Now you asked for examples and this is only examples and not proven figures. I don't have proven figures only examples of what I have seen happen on my earning. This might not happen on all earning but I have seen this happen on mine

Has anything ever gone viral on mylot? (used to be a regular poster way back on the old site, got bored & drifted away, before it stopped paying - this is my first time back). The whole meaning of "going viral"/viral content is something widely spreading across the internet (and if your (un)lucky elsewhere) like a virus.

Yes I know this. The reason I used the word viral in my title was to attract people\s attention. The world viral is like an eye magnet. When people see this world it attracts them.

I think this discussion might go viral, as it falls under #10. Yes, I think #10 will attract many readers and the other topics listed as well. I usually write about my life, hence it's not good enough to be popular, not to say go viral. But I am happy with just writing my mind.

I have often wondered why some posts seem more popular than others. I guess it all depends on what people are looking at in the particular day.

@poehere,I,too,want my discussions go viral, but don't know what makes a discussion viral.I just start discussions about my experiences and thoughts and some of them receive a good number of likes and comments.Still I have no idea as to what are the hot topics here.

@else34 Yes it is always hit and miss here on the site. Ones you think will take off seem to flop. The ones you don't expect to take off are a big hit.

You know what I don't either. You think this one will be hot and then it bombs. One you don't think much on and write it up takes off and it's popular. So I guess it all depends on the mood and who sees this and who wants to comment on it.

That would be interesting. I think I did see one a time back about a person writing about giving medical advice here on the site. I saw it had a lot of comments and interactions on this ne. They had some valid points on this one. Nobody here is a doctor and we shouldn't be giving medical advice to people.

Yes if you are around for a bit you'll see what is popular and attracts attention and what attracts moderate attention and what attracts small to none attention. I fee a good post that has around 10 to 20 comments is a well written post and is doing fine here.
