Job fairs can be fun. You need to have a top notch resume to hand out to the recruiters and you need to dressed professionally. A job fair does not guarantee you a job but it puts you in front of a number of employers. A lot of the job fairs will provide some type of refreshments and remember they are free to attend, they also will give you brochures, pamphlets and other fun stuff. The job fair will also let you see who you are competing against and to see if you need more job skills.

@TiarasOceanFair I hadn't been to one either because I was always working but it would have been interesting.

I've been to a couple job fairs, though they didn't offer refreshments.

@jusr4him Seems some job fairs offer refreshments while others don't. The one they held here a while back had coffee or tea and donuts

@just4him I wouldn't call it drilling you as they just want the best person /people for the job.

@Marcyaz They probably wanted you to feel at ease before the recruiters started drilling you for your expertise

I have never been a job fair before. There was once my husband went to a job fair, and I was already a stay-at-home mom and bringing my son with me. At first I thought perhaps I could take a look how a job fair was like, but of course, kids were not allowed to enter.

@kaka135 To bad you couldn't have found a sitter for the children so you could go and see what a job fair is about.

I haven't been to a job fair since the one I went to in 2002. Got the job and worked there until I got a early retirement in 2007.

I had been to a few back in late 1990s when I was looking out for better opportunities in other big cities. Back then, the call centers were quite new and the jobs in International ones were high paying. Now, the problem I had faced was that as these companies were from other states, only a part of interview (I would call that as screening) was done here. I got selected into one only in 2001 - and that too when I was at Delhi (Capital of India). Today, these Job fairs are more exciting even here. I had gone to take interviews on two occasions (in 2013,2014 for Internet Based Firm with whom I was associated) - and the best part was that apart from the to and fro and the payout, they also served me good food.

@Marcyaz I think when you are the one who conducts interviews, the organization that you represent should provide the food as well, just because it is a tasking 8 hour (or more) thing.

No, I have never been to one and I cannot remember I ever heard of a job fair. I believe that they are popular in the UK.

I haven't been to one recently, but I did attend one for our local Science Center several years ago. I wanted to work in the "Kids Room" but did not get the job. I have had more experience in working with children recently, plus my 90hrs Certification in Child Care, so if it came down to it, I'd probably stand a bigger chance now than I did at the time. I'm content working from home as a freelance writer and babysitter, but it's still good to know the option is there. That job fair was only for jobs at the Science Center tho.

@tammys85 It is a good option for you if you wanted to no longer work from home.

I've never been to anything like this before. I don't really know if we have ever had one around here. I reckon it could be a bit of fun.

Yes it is mixed feelings for me. It is mostly to test the market and to know where I stand. One should have an open mind to get the best results - siva
