When we visited Spain a few years ago, we stayed in a nice hotel on the Costa del Sol of the Mediterranean Sea, not far from Malaga in a town called Fuengirola in the region of Andalusia. It was so beautiful there.
We loved the area and enjoyed the seaside. Our balcony looked out over the Mediterranean Sea and the sunsets were beautiful. My husband took a picture of a sailboat with gulls flying near our balcony just as the sun set. It's an amazingly beautiful picture.
We took a bus tour through the mountains and passed by hundreds, actually thousands, of olive trees on our way to Seville. The guide told us that Spain was actually the second most mountainous country in Europe. I didn't know that at the time.
When we reached Seville, we took the tour inside the Cathedral of Seville, some sections of which were built as far back as 1172. This particular section was called "Del Lagarto" which used to be part of a court of a mosque.
The building today, known as "The Cathedral of Seville" is historically made up of the Saint, Patriarchal, Cathedral of the Diocese of Seville and with its other buildings and the Parish Church cover an entire block of the city.
The Parish Chapel, we were told, was inaugurated in 1662. The tower of the old mosque (Aljama) was finished in 1198 and the belfry in 1568. The Gothic Cathedral was begun in 1401 and finished in 1519. The construction of the most modern part started in 1509 and was completed in 1543.
To walk around in this building was truly amazing. To think that a building like this could have been constructed without the use of modern building equipment like we have today is almost unbelievable.
There were some restricted areas that we could not see. We were instructed to not use flash cameras when taking photographs and told not to touch objects, not to shout or smoke, drink or do any improper activity in this building. This was to show respect for not only the building itself, but for the different ceremonies taking place or because people were praying while we were there.
What an amazing building. I'm sure you can find pictures of it online. Have you ever visited there?

I didn't realize that Spain was so mountainous either. It's a beautiful country for many reasons.

I have been to Spain a couple of times. My ex and I visited Malaga, Seville and Grenada in 2004. It was a very nice trip and we visited many beautiful places. My brother lived in Fuengirola in 2005 and I visited him there.

@IreneVincent Fuengirola is a really nice place, but it is also my impression that most people haven't heard of it. Your trip sounds amazing. I haven't been to Spain for 10 years, but I would like to return one day.

So you know EXACTLY where Fuengirola is. When I mention that town to most people, they have never heard of it. I had never heard of it myself until I earned that FREE trip from my company. They paid for everything. I took my husband and my brother and his wife. We enjoyed the trip immensely.
