Are we caretakers of the world?

By this I mean--Look at how much we end up paying into society because others don't, won't or can't. Many of us pay into the ASPCA and other charities because people who own animals don't take care of them. We pay taxes that go toward repairs in parks, streets, and schools because people and kids aren't being responsible. We pay extra because people steal and we have to make up the difference in hotels, restaurants, stores and public conveyances, etc. We pay extra too for added services and retracted programs in Human Services and other government departments. Or we don't get certain services anymore because others abused the service. We get less because of people's dishonesty too. They make it difficult for people to get services because agents, police and such think we are lying or otherwise not giving them truthful information because some have and so they are sceptical of honest people. So they question our honesty due to others being dishonest. So they don't know who to believe anymore. What about fake products we buy. Sure they are cheaper but they are making it difficult for the true companies to make money so they hike their prices. It's not fair is it? It's not fair to have to pay for others short comings. And, of course, there are things that are not available any longer because of the cost. Not many more freebies available out there is any. I guess that is a whole other subject. What are some of your experiences or pet peeves? Image courtesy of Flickr.com

I think my biggest one, now that I'm on this side of the fence and not the other I was on for so many years of my life, is that the welfare system has gone to the dogs. I know there are people who abused it to the point where it's at today, but at one time I got a welfare check that helped out with needed expenses - rent, utilities and such. I found a job and was off welfare for many years. Since I was fired from my job in 2013 and when my unemployment ran out and I was forced back into the welfare system, I found there isn't a welfare check anymore, at least not for people like me. So my home went into foreclosure and my utilities almost got turned off. It's as if the welfare system doesn't care about people anymore. I can understand not giving money away to people who honestly aren't looking for anything more than a handout, but I did everything I could to find a job and none was forthcoming and for that I am beaten down to the point where I'm about to lose everything, unless the bank looks kindly on me and grants the modification. The only thing welfare gives now is FoodShare what used to be Food Stamps, and Healthcare. Nothing else. So we can eat, but we can't pay the utilities to enable the food to be cooked or refrigerated, or have a home to sleep in so we have a place to eat. Now does that make any sense?

THe welfare system seems to be directed toward helping babies and children. Not adults and older folks. We can thank people who abused it while it was so good and helping so many others too for this.

@celticeagle It's sad, and I don't know what to think of organizations who talk out of the side of their mouths, making it sound like they're helping when they really aren't.

I think that God gave us this earth and made us stewards of it. And we, as an overall people, do such a bad job. We don't take care of each other, or those that do, can only do so much. I have to keep focusing on the small positive things I see. But often, I fail at that.

Humans are basically a selfish and self serving race. Sadly so. I fail too. I think it is important to do the best we can in our own little corners of the world. If we would each do that we would have it made.

I hate people who abuse the system to get handouts they dont need, while some have to abuse it to get what they actually do need, or cant get it all. I hate walking in the snow to take a shower because I dont have my own, yet I make "too much" to get assistance. I hate bad luck, and bills that grow with it.

I hear ya. I used to get to a point where I needed some helped and I would apply for it and find I was just barely over the line where I couldn't get it. That was very frustrating.

I hate people who know how to work the system and get services they aren't necessarily entitled to. That leaves those who deserve these services out of luck.

Exactly. And these same people have been doing it for generations. It is sad that they get away with it for so long.

@celticeagle I feel like I am a caretaker in my part of the world for other reasons. I feel that I have to clean up after the jerk that lives upstairs because he thinks it is ok to throw things on our porch and he throws things in the sink and then when out on my scooter have to watch all those around me because they do not pay attention. It gets very tiring. All I want to do is take care of my cat and myself and all the others take care of themselves.

I'd be gathering this stuff up and places it in front of his door. People need to get the hint sometimes.

@celticeagle I have thought of that too but then others would blame me or gossip about me.
