Footprints in my driveway - aliens?

Our home sits at least 350 feet from the road. My husband just took a ride down that 350 feet in the golf cart. He was going for the mail. When he came back inside he was all rattled (that happens once in a while!). The driveway, until then, had not been driven over, so no tire tracks or any tracks should have been there. However, he found footprints from the road about 30 feet up our driveway. He said they were small feet and that it appeared the person walked back and forth at least six time. He said it appeared that someone might have been talking on a cell phone you know how people pace when they do that.There were no tire tracks but if the person parked in the road there wouldn't be any in the driveway. He can't tell if they were from last night or this morning. I suggested maybe someone was looking for a lost dog, pulled over to call the pet's name and was on the cell at the same time. Possible. Casing the joint? They would have sat in their nice warm car to do that. Another possibility - aliens - No, just joking!
