Today is Australia Day and it is celebrated in a variety of ways. Generally, people congregate on the beach or nearby and have barbecues and picnics. Then in the evening we have fireworks in different locations. My husband came to Australia when we were married in 1978 and became an Australian citizen soon thereafter. Every year we would go to the city, book a hotel and watch the firework display from the Swan River. He loved Australia and always felt that this was home for him. Now he is no longer with us I still celebrate this day and remember all those people from other countries who now call Australia their home. I hope they feel as welcome and loved as my husband did.

It sounds like a good time is had by all and very similar to our fouth of July celebrations. Sorry to hear your husband is no longer there in the flesh to celebrate with you but he will always be with you in your heart.
