Rachel Lovejoy's Flower Challenge - My Entry

United States
January 26, 2016 12:16pm CST
@Raelove, Rachel Lovejoy, thought it would brighten her day to see some photos of flowers. She has asked us to post our flowers in order to cheer her and others up during this gloomy winter period. The sunflowers in my photo were miracle sunflowers. The southern red clay was hard as a rock and planting the seeds a few inches down was impossible. I put the seeds on top of the dirt and sprinkled a little potting soil on top just so they wouldn't blow away. You can imagine my surprise when they grew and survived. I love sunflowers. I think they are very fitting for where we live in the country.

Yes they are. Years ago my husband grew some that the flowers were 20 inches wide. He won a ribbon at the country fair for the second largest.

@AbbyGreenhill I have those small ones on the front garden, because we also have strong wind in summer. I have put some tall ones in the vegetable garden, they were huge.

These are the smaller variety. I picked them because of the wind we have, wanted to keep a low profile.

Sun flowers are wonderful. We always plant the really tall ones, but I am going to plant some short ones this year too.

We have a lot of wind and the shorter variety holds up better.

@AbbyGreenhill I didn't post the prettiest flower but unusual to say the least, at least I have never seen one.

Same thing happened to me when I went to plant ours out by the garage. One side got a lot of sun and luckily enough. The ground there was hard as a rock.

Yes, I saw that orchid. When I lived in Hawaii my Japanese landlord grew them - he had hundreds, it was amazing.

@AbbyGreenhill I don't have any flower pictures to contribute to this challenge. It is a miracle how you got them to grow. I couldn't have done it. Nothing grows for me.
