The Jesus Donkey

I have three donkeys: Buttercup, Baby and Fuzzy-wuzzy. Originally I had leased part of my land for people so they could graze their animals. Well the guy who owned Buttercup and Baby never came back and at the time, I didn't know Baby was pregnant. Buttercup looks just like the photo in the link whereas Baby is a beige-white and Fuzzy-wuzzy is a dark brown. One thing I did notice was the fact that Buttercup had the sign of the cross on his back but the other two didn't. I did some research and supposedly 'all' donkeys have the sign but I could swear my other two do not have it. The 'sign' is very distinctive and you can't miss it. Considering Baby's coloring, you would think it would jump out at you. Regardless, my Buttercup is the sweetest of the three; he even gives me kisses. So maybe he is truly a Jesus donkey.
A poor farmer near Jerusalem owned a donkey far too small to do much work at all. He felt that he couldn't afford to feed a worthless animal like this, one that could do him no good whatsoever, so ...

Wow now that is interesting. I had never heard of that Nanette. You love your donkeys if they have the sign or not. Cant believe that guy left them with you as well!

@nanette64 Well, now you have them and might as well love them! Did not know they were good at getting rid of coyotes.

They are something else @TiarasOceanView and they do protect my property from coyotes. I tried calling the guy after he didn't show up and pay me any lease fee and it was disconnected. I knew I had just adopted some big critters.

@TiarasOceanView Well, you know me, I'm just a big softie. lol. I've seen many a time when a coyote went to get a drink from the stock pond and the donkeys were charging at full speed. Poor coyote.

I don't know where you got your information but as far as I'm aware only donkeys of a certain colour have the cross although mostly lighter solid-coloured ones do. The skewbald and piebald donkeys certainly don't have crosses. I always thought I'd like a donkey.

One thing's for sure @JudyEv , they make great watch dogs. They let me know when any 'thing' is on the property that shouldn't be.

@nanette64 Over here they put alpacas in with flocks of sheep as the alpacas 'adopt' the herd and will chase out predators which in our case is mostly stray dogs. I have an idea some use donkeys for the same reason. You don't really see a lot of donkeys over here.

Not all donkeys have the sign, but it's true that the little ones with the sign are the sweetest.

How interesting Nanette. I had one once as a companion to a horse turned out in the field. (We got rid of him when the vet said he could pass lungworm to the horse). He had a faint cross on his back.

Oh yeah, lungworm is dangerous @jaboUK . Horses and donkeys make great companions.

my understanding is that donkeys are pretty good pets. I have never had one for a pet but I enjoy them when I am around them..

My favorite part was how the donkey got the marking @fishtiger58 .
