Prickly Plant Beautiful Flower

While on vacation one year, my husband and I were walking around a new lake we just happened upon while traveling. We have never heard of this lake before and for the life of me I can't remember where it was other than somewhere in Illinois.
The lake was surround by these beautiful thistles. It was a small lake and you could see them all around it. Just beautiful. Thought I would share. It has such gorgeous color for being a prickly type plant. It is also a member of the daisy family.

Thistles are so pretty too, the flowers on them.
It made me think of Scotland with the thistles and the heather.

The thistle is the Scottish national emblem. I thought the color of this one was stunning.

They are super for digestion and there are milk thistles and other thistles in supplements and tea for the liver and other things.

@fishtiger58 Yes, it's pretty but not in the lawn, if you come too close it hurts.

@fishtiger58 We have them everywhere in my area, the wind brings the seeds and then I have to pick up the weeds from my lawn.

It's beautiful. I had a thistle plant growing on the side of one of the houses I was living in many years ago. I watched it grow and waited for the day it would bloom. It never arrived. My landlord did first with the lawnmower and mowed it down 
I was so disappointed.

They do call it a weed but how can you when it produces such a lovely flower. The color alone is worth not cutting it down.

That is pretty @fishtiger58 . I've got some wild flowers around here where the flower itself isn't prickly but the stem is.
