It is so Warm/Sunny I am Thinking of Cutting the Grass

This is the weirdest winter I have known. This week the temperatures are expected to stay above freezing all week, it is currently so warm I was thinking of going out to cut the grass this afternoon. I live in Canada, a land where on the average February day everywhere (except places like Vancouver British Colombia) should be covered in snow. We have had 4 mini snowfalls, 3 dropped less than 1 centimeter, the fourth was maybe 5 centimeters, which is next to nothing for this part of the world. I think I should cut the grass and fire up the barbecue, what do you think?

Sounds like a plan to me I can see very little grass here as we still have plenty of snow on the ground.

We should have lots of snow as well. All that we had has melted and gone

Here is southern California, it's been uncharacteristically cool. I even had frost on my car roof one morning. At the moment, however, it's been in the 80s during the day (off the top of my head, I believe 85F is about 30C). I don't much care for it.

There used to be a joke about the California weather forecaster going on holiday and pre-recording the forecast, that is no longer the case. The 80s is certainly hot. We now have a layer of snow on the ground.

@msiduri Yes and I have been warned that it will soon be a desert

@pgiblett No, couldn't make that joke anymore. We've had hail here in the last five years. That was odd. In the middle of a prolonged drought, we had floods. Go figure.

Yes, and I think you should invite us all over! Currently it is warmish in our area - typical of our so called winters in Southern California. We never get any sort of snow where I live - and for that matter we barely get rain. Oh but there are times when it's chilly - chilly in our standards that is.

@pgiblett Is that what you wear when cutting the grass too?

@much2say In Canada any sunny day is a good day for a BBQ, even if it is -5 (Celsius) and sunny you will see a traditional Canadian male wearing tee-shirt and shorts fire up the BBQ.

It will hit 5 Celsius today (that is in the mid 40s your temp I think) Think about the USA is you have such a range of temperatures at all times of the year, some parts hardly ever see winter and others have severe ones.

@pgiblett Yup, that's how it is and that's why if you like winter move up north, if you don't move south.

@TheHorse I was living in Munich in Germany in 1991 (the year of Desert Storm when Sadam set alight all the oil wells in Kuwait) and we had snow in, June, July and August that year.

@pgiblett Ah, such is life in Winter in Canada. I remember our 4th of July snow flurries in Montana.

It's good to cut the grass. Climate is very hot here in summer.

@shshiju That is true. I remember in India many places were too dry for grass.

But here in the great white north we should be having the coldest days of the year.

We haven't had much snow here this winter either compared to last year. This week the temps been in the 50's and supposed to be the same today. I'm hoping Phil the groundhog was right and spring is coming early.

You just made me feel so blessed, cutting grass and barbeque could be done here almost whole year round without giving a thought and saying thanks, it's natural routine. Enjoy what you are doing.

I always enjoy what I am doing, I simply expect it to be cold at this time of year, not above freezing.

if you have the weather for it, why not? It wouldn't be possible here at present sadly

We fired the BBQ up over the weekend, but Canadians do it on any sunny day (no matter what the temperature).

Here it is overcast/cloudy/chilly but I still went out and cut the grass because it's supposed to rain soon, I think. ;)

That is the Canadian attitude I wanted to hear - every Canadian knows all you need is a sunny day to turn the barbecue on, even at sub-zero temperatures.

it sounds like you have some good weather - and as they say, make hay while the sun shines or as you say Light up the barbecue and cut the grass

It's pretty unusual that your Canadian weather has less snow than my part of Pennsylvania (US). We got more snow last weekend with the blizzard (30 inches) than you've had all this year. Mother Nature is really mixed up

I Niagara Falls we don't get anywhere near as much as they do in Buffalo NY, but the total amount of snow this year has been paltry.

It's too warm this year, our temperature during the day is 15 degrees Celsius, we do not go below zero even during the night. The lawn is horrible, because it does not rain from October.

Cut the grass while grilling. Just make sure to check that the barbecue isn't burnt.

You weren't supposed to notice that. I think the problem will be burnt grass.
