I didn't watch much of the Super Bowl, just the last few minutes. I read a lot of commentary, however, about the music.
Most people agree that he halftime show was awful. In fact, parody news site the Onion had an article up shortly after the halftime show, saying "Super Bowl Halftime Show Marred By Working Sound System."
Most everyone agreed that Lada Gaga's rendition of the National Anthem was "stunning," "amazing," "one of the best performances ever," and other superlatives.
My curiosity got the better of me and I went to You a Tube to watch.
All I can say is.....ewwww
Okay, folks, let's get this straight. The National Anthem is NOT a pop song. You don't see Canadians doing that to "O Canada."
Sing it correctly or don't sing it.

@AbbyGreenhill It is the same opinion I had. I have searched the Anthem on YouTube and watched this morning, she started well, but did not last.

@LadyDuck I guess the younger generation liked it better.

I would give Lady G a 5 out of 10 for her rendition. Having been born and lived my early years in Baltimore (and still have family there) that song should be sung one way and one way only. As for the rest of the 'show' we turned it off and watched the test pattern.

I agree, which is probably why I didn't like it. Wayne Messmer takes two minutes to sing the National Anthem at Cubs or Blackhawks game, and does it splendidly. As you said, she started out good, then got into the hand gestures and squawking. It took her three and a half minutes to sing it. I don't see a need to do a Jennifer Holliday impersonation during the national anthem. Save that for your own songs.

@FourWalls I would prefer a version with no singing, just play the song.

I heard it was good and a good job was done. I don't know because I didn't see it.

I have not seen this show of Lady Gaga will trust what I read and I can say that the singer did not see her in that light.
It was a wild crazy but I think I can not sing very true.
My personal opinion I hope I have not offended some!

I watched the game but missed most of the halftime show, thankfully! I was out gathering wood for the fire I did catch the end of it and that didn't seem that awful but of course I missed the parts people were talking about.

Every one has their own way to sing the national anthem, I like just a simple version, I didn't really think Lady Gaga ruined it at all. It was most respectful. But that's my opinion.
