Today is Go Fly a Kite Day, bet you didn't know that.. It's a real popular activity for kites and adults alike. Aren't you amazed that go fly a kite day is held in the winter months for those of us who live in colder climates. Did you know Ben Franklin flew a kite in a thunderstorm and discovered electricity, also kites were first used by the military in ancient China over 3,000 years ago. If you are going to brave the weather why not "Go Fly a Kite."

When I was young me and my best girlfriend would always start flying kites in March. It was still pretty cold but the wind was howling. We just had to hold up our kites and they would take off. Better than running all over the field trying to get the kite up.

@fishtiger58 I can remember running across a field trying to get the kite up also and it was fun but I don't think it was in February.

I haven't flown a kite in so many years. Don't even own a kite anymore. In fact, I haven't even seen anyone fly a kite in general for so many years.

@VivaLaDani13 You should get one to fly before winters trickle in. Enjoy the wind and all.

I actually didn't know that, but regardless I'm good lol. I have yet to fly a kite with my son, we don't really have a good area to fly a kite here. Too many trees and power lines.

@sissy15 Is there a park close by that doesn't have a lot of trees or power lines close by or an open field where the two of you could go and have fun flying a kite.

When me and my siblings , all girls were young , we would go with our boy cousins in the field and watch them fly their kites . And they let us try it also .

It would be lovely to fly a kite Marcy. I have such fond memories of doing so when I was a child. I did not know there was a fly a kite day.

@lokisdad It is a lot of fun and when you walk fast or run with it you can see it going higher and higher, up, up and up almost to the clouds.

Sorry for my ignorance, i did not know that trivia about Ben Franklin. Here in our country flying a kite is done in summer mostly by the younger boys.

Kites used to be one of the most popular Spring activities when I was young. Spring here starts in September which is also the month of our Independence holidays. Now chidren are more interested in computers and we don“t see as many kites as before.

@marguicha Maybe in parents would take their children out to a park with a kite it would become a family activity every week and so much fun that way the children would also be getting some exercise.
