Time for Me to Get Hot and Bothered

United States

Yup, gotta make a batch of brownies for the hubby. LOL. I often fire up the oven and bake something for him to take in his lunchbox to work. I'll need to heat up the kitchen, which is a good thing. It helps to warm the house and the furnace doesn't turn on so often. What bothers me the most is having more dishes to wash after the brownies are made. My work is never done.

Not sure how it might affect the crust, but could you not put aluminum foil in the bottom of the pan? That would save one dish from needing to be washed.

@ElusiveButterfly You could pack a quarter in with his lunch and he can get a gumball out of a machine somewhere.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Ha! He would put it toward a package of cupcakes at the nearby store.

@fishtiger58 I caved and ate the crusty edges. Had to cut them off because the hubby doesn't like them. Didn't want them to go to waste. Oh wait...guess they will sorta go to waist.

It is only the two of us and our cats. After spending the day washing dishes, cooking, and keeping house for others, I find it difficult to come home and perform these tasks.

@Jessicalynnt A nap can do a body good. Brownies on the other hand aren't that great for the body.

The brownies are simple enough to make. I never use a boxed mix. They are in the oven baking now.

I love cooking and baking but I also hate the dishes that comes after that! I need to hire a maid just to do them. Lol

The thought of the warmth in the house and the smell of the brownies is enough to make me smile.

The warmth was short lived. The furnace is firing on again, but the aroma of fresh baked brownies still lingers in the air.

@ElusiveButterfly Time to fire up the oven and make something else! A large pot of beef stew (a nice marbled cut, please) sounds pretty good to me right now.

Vince is going to cook a frittata and a roast pork shortly. We will have these cold when the musicians arrive for our house concert on Saturday. It makes it easier if we cook something ahead of time and have it cold. Brownies sound nice.

I am going to take couple of them to one of my clients today. She only bakes boxed mixes. I usually bake from scratch.

@Marty1 better than boxed! I can taste the preservatives in boxed mixes.

How lovely of you to make your husband's lunches. Most ain't that lucky and have to buy their own lunches.

When we first got together he was buying lunch from a vending machine and spending a lot of money. I converted him to the luxury of having homemade lunches and now he is spoiled.
