Met Another Internet Friend

Yesterday Al and I drove 48 miles to Brooksville to meet up with someone I have known on the Internet for many years. She used to write on Associated Content and then Bubblews. We have had many discussions over the years and I suggested that we meet.We both have blogs on Blogger as well.
She picked the place, a tea room and it was adorable. We had a great time getting to know each other in person and I think we may have started what will be a yearly tradition. I have been suggesting she join up here and she has. I am sure many of you may know her, @jeanniemaries.

I have done it many times over the years and I have always had a good experience. I do however make sure it is someone I feel I know quite well. I have met two Internet friends in England, one at a pub in London and another at a pub down in Wiltshire I think. Lots of fun both times. Both guys are travel writers.

@BelleStarr It does not surprise me that on both occasions that you met an English person it was in a pub. This is always the most likely place to find us.

I have only met one person that I talked to online. She is a fellow writer and she comes here for a couple of months in the winter. She and I both wrote for Helium. We usually walk most days when she is here. We sometimes do other things together, too. Her name is Kathy. I don't think she is on myLot, though.
It is strange how we met. I mentioned to the manager here that I worked on Helium. She said there was another Helium writer living here. We met and have been friends since then.

I was the Travel Channel Manager at Helium for 7 years. I loved that site. I am still friends with two of the senior managers and get together regualrly with on of them.

@BelleStarr Glad to see you. I wrote under a variety of pen names on Helium, don't remember the one I used when they closed. I am glad you still have connections. I am on a closed FB page for ex Helium writers. Are you there? We are a crazy bunch.

I have only met one person that I had met online many years ago. Remember ICQ? We connected on there and remained friends over the years. She lives in Canada and traveled to join me and my husband on our wedding day. It was a joy to meet her.

@BelleStarr never heard of IgoUgo. I guess that many of these sites are no longer in existence. Oh well, Facebook is going quite well. Have met quite a few people on there, including my husband.

I don't know ICQ. I met many friend on IgoUgo where we were all travelers and they organized get togethers.

The name is familiar but after so many years and so many sites I think all names are starting to run together. I have met 3 from AC, 2 of them are about an hour from me and 1 I write for her blog now.

@AbbyGreenhill I did the first time but I always bring hubs with me. The first few were men writers in Europe but I had known them online for years.

It is wonderful to meet people in person. I only meet those who I know quite well and this was a wonderful experience.

Yes when we originally met she lived in Ohio and me in Connecticut. Now we are about 70 miles apart so much closer. at least in the winter.

I guess it depends where you live. Not everyone puts in their location but if they do it is easy too see if getting together is a possibility.

If there is something good in writing sites, aside from giving a venue for us to write and opportunity to ear a bit, it is the connection. We get to meet people all over and if we are lucky, we make friends.

I make sure I know the person pretty well before we meet and so far it has always been positive. One didn't look like her picture but other than that it has been wonderful and I have made some lifelong friends.
