I just got to know about this, and thought it'd be nice to share this with you. International Book Giving Day takes place on 14th February every year, and its aim is to get books into the hands of as many children as possible. It's about sharing the love of books. There are a few ways we can celebrate this day: 1) Give a book to a friend or relative 2) Leave a book for the children to pick it up and read 3) Donate a book It's already 15 February here, so I'll have to remember this and make some plans next year. I actually got this information from Hay House's newsletter. To celebrate this book giving day, Hay House is offering a free ebook. We can pick one of the 6 top selling books from the list. I have just downloaded the ebook "21 Days to Master Success and Inner Peace" by Dr Wayne Dyer, as I am always learning to seek for inner peace and I like Dr Wayne as well. If you are interested in this offer, hurry up as it's only for today.

I was happy because there is a book by my favorite author, but I don't know about other books. I don't have much time to read a book now as well, but I still need to read some as I need to prepare for my children's homeschooling.

@salonga Yes, I have always read or heard others asking how to encourage kids to read. I think by us reading to them or with them, the children will just pick up the habit. My children still do not actually read yet, but they always just hold the books, flip through and read. I am always amazed by my son that he could recognize some words from the books, even though I haven't officially teach him yet. I enjoy seeing my children "reading" the books or flipping through the books together too, it's really a harmonious and peaceful moment.

That's what I like to do as well. I always think books are good gifts to give to others, adults or kids.

@kaka135 I am amazed sometimes to go into a house and there isn't a book to be seen.

@JudyEv In my parents' house, we have a very big book shelf in the living room, and some smaller ones in our own bedrooms. So I thought it's very common to have books at home when I was young. Until some of my friends visited my house and was amazed of the amount of books we have at home, then only I found out there are many people do not have many books at home and some people just don't like to read. Reading seems to be not a popular habit in my country, and now with the invention of Internet, it might become worse.

I just knew about this a few hours ago too, but it's over 14 Feb here. I think it takes the meaning of Valentine's Day and to share the love with others.

Me too. I think many of us spend more time on Internet now. I am still trying to read some books, but very slowly.
