Disappointing Read

I finished reading a fictional book from a new author. I got the ebook for free. It is the first part of a three-part book from the same author. While the first book is free to download, the second and third parts are like $2.49 each. After reading the book, I do not think I will get the others even though the story is not yet finished. I decided to keep mum on the book and the author’s name, because the author is new and probably even self-published, and I do not want to ruin any chances for a good publishing experience for the said author. While I think the book is not really good, it could have been just me and I hate to put out a bad word out there. In my opinion, it started promising. Towards the middle, the conflict was confusing and contradictory. And towards the end, it seemed like the author rushed it and decided that it’s a good kind of cliff hanger to make the readers wanting. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I deleted the ebook from my kindle and moved on to the next. I still feel like if the author had a good editor, the book may have been improved upon.

I have found this with self-published books too - that they are not really very good. Obviously the author thinks they are and desperately wants to be published but the end result is not satisfying for the reader.

They could also be probably doing this for experience or as a resume builder.

@Raine38 Whatever their reason - if the book isn't a certain standard you wouldn't bother reading anything else by them.

Its disappointing when a book looks good but falls flat

At least I did not pay for it. If I did, I might end up selling it (if I bought the actual, physical book). If it is an ebook, hmm... now that is tricky.

Well when you mentioned free I knew it wasn't my book! I do wish writers would be more diligent about editing. I know it is costly, believe me, but so worth the trouble.

It's the little things that count. There is this famous book for young adults, that was even made to a movie, but the book have misspellings. Made me wonder who edited it.
