So... I sold another book...

And I'm not thrilled about it. Because I know again I will end out losing money instead of making money. Amazon only charges the customer $6.49 for shipping. This 2 inch soft cover book is going to cost at least 12 bucks to send to New Brunswick, Canada (from Ontario). I am LOSING money on these sales. There is no sense in this. I am so sorry I listed my books on there.

@patgalca A garage sale would be a good idea.

Oh Ouch! I sell books on Amazon and have lost money a couple of times--always on the shipping--now I am really careful about it

@patgalca ouch! I don't do any shipping other than to the US and now only standard shipping--I lost my shirt on rush orders

Am I understanding you sell your books on Amazon but ship them yourself? Are these books you wrote and self-published?
I sell my books on Amazon (I published the paperback versions via CreateSpace). The books are printed on demand when ordered and Amazon ships them for me. I just sit back and wait for the royalties to hit my bank account when one sells.

Does Amazon have an outlet in Canada? Or do you send the books from your house or something? I'd think they would work with you on the shipping, but we've not had to deal with this as yet as my husband's book isn't yet published.

These are used books that I am selling, not books I published. I have on idea how the published (self-published) process works for selling on Amazon. I complained to them about their flat shipping rate and they told me only small businesses could set the shipping prices and I should raise the price of my books to cover the difference.

@MarshaMusselman It's amazon.ca so only Canadian customers attend that site.

@patgalca Well, at least that would be one answer. Could you stipulate that the price of the book is one thing if shipped in the US and another if shipped in Canada or elsewhere? Not sure the best way to go about fixing it, but they've offered a different way at least.

I know when my books have sold in foreign countries the royalties I receive are barely anything.

I think I'm pricing the books too low. I figured I wouldn't be able to sell them for more. Of course if I sell them in a garage sale I will get even less per book (even though they are in mint condition) but I won't have to pay anything.

The problem is the low charges on shipping. Amazon charges the customer a flat rate of $6.49 but it costs me $12.00 to ship. I complained and they said to go in and raise the prices of my books so that I wouldn't lose money. I did that last time.

I am sorry to hear that. This is not good that the sellers can't earn from selling stuffs from Amazon. As Amazon will lose more sellers and it is not good for itself. They shall consider to change some rules. Everybody's earning is a long term business.

That's disappointing. Can you change your prices to make up for the cost of the shipping? You shouldn't have to lose money on the deal.

@Sheilamarie78 Yes, I know. Since winning a lot of books I have boxes overflowing as I have no more room left on my book shelves. I think it's time to purge.

@patgalca If someone really wants one of your books, they'll be willing to pay. Otherwise you're doing a lot of work just to provide a service. I realize you want to get rid of your books, but don't spend a lot of time trying to give them away. You could donate them to a library sale or have your own yard sale. You'd maybe get rid of them sooner if they're in your way. If you'd rather sell them for what they're worth, you'll have to be willing to increase the price and wait for someone to order them.
I hope you're able to make a few dollars on them. I also have a pile of books that I don't know what to do with. I have a hard time letting them go.
