Did you know that the average person generates about five TONS of fecal matter in their life time? The size, shape and color of your stool can tell alot about your health. It can tell how your gastrointestinal tract is doing and give up clues to infections, digestion problems, and processes going on in the body that could mean the onset of serious diseases. Some things such as stool color, form and texture can be considered normal but others can mean the immediate need for medical attention.
Most of it is made up of water. The rest is cells and mucus, live bacteria as well as dead, and fiber. Did you know that how it hits the water and whether it is a floater or a sinker are all realistic information?
A healthy stool is light to medium brown in color and smooth to soft in texture. Up to 18 inches long and two inches in diameter.
A unhealthy stool would be painful and hard to pass. Comes in hard lumps or pieces and pasty-- difficult to clean off. Pencil or ribbon like stools can mean there is a tumor or obstruction. Black or tarry may indicate bleeding. Best to be evaluated by your care physician.
More on the subject:
There is a variety of normal stool colors, textures, and forms, but there are things that, if seen or experienced, warrant immediate medical attention.

You didn't mention anything about the aroma. Does that have different meanings too?

@celticeagle Yes that information has been wandering about over here for a while now but never any mention of aromas. I wonder why because when my son uses the bathroom, whoever goes next knows that he was the last one there as his resembles forget-me-nots

@mysdianait ....If it is that bad I would look at his diet. What is he eating that causes this? Could be a lot of reasons for it too. Bacteria in the bowel, yeast, enzymes, digestion problems, etc. Charcoal tablets take away odor. If it is bothersome I would ask his doctor about it.

Yes it is a basic life function and life force friend.
It does tell a lot about a persons health.
There are specialists to help a person if they are ill that way.
It is very important to have normal bowel movements.

@TiarasOceanView ....Yes, some can cause constipation and such. You have update your diet to take care of such things. Drink some juice or coffee to get things going or lots of water and fiber needs to be in the diet.
