Beautiful Weather Equals Unproductive Momma

February 18, 2016 1:24pm CST
Thursdays tend to be slightly off days in our homeschooling family. I attend a mid-morning yoga class that's timing pretty much interrupts the entire morning. So typically, I wake the kids. We have breakfast together before I head to the gym. Then I expect them to do some independent work while I am gone. By the time I arrive home, it's lunchtime. We eat then usually buckle right down to the rest of our school day. Today, however, the weather has other plans. It's a balmy 70 degrees in our midwestern city. The sun shining. There is a springtime breeze blowing. Thus, after lunch, my fourteen year old offered to take the dog on a lengthy walk. And the other kids are playing in the backyard. My plan was to give them fifteen minutes, but it's slowly turning into something a bit longer. We do need to turn our attention to the rest of our work, but this weather is making it quite difficult! I believe spring fever just hit us!

Maybe you need to schedule a less on outside or plan a visit to something educational. :) It's hard to resist sunshine.

yes, I used to be better about doing impromptu things like that with the kids. doing grammar outdoors is much more fun than inside! it was too windy to take school work outside though. That wind was crazy!

It happens to the best of us. Lol. Its okay for them to enjoy the weather a little bit and I'm sure there's a lesson to be learned outdoors too. =) I know my kids love lizards/frogs/flowers so we make a fun lesson about those things!

I miss the days that my kids were always outside for lizards and frogs and flowers. my oldest son, Nolan, was such a nature lover.

That must be one of the benefits of homeschooling - you can just change your schedule if you want to.

@jillybean1222 We all get bogged down, you probably just need a break. Every May I get stressed out because we did not accomplish as much as I wanted, maybe someday I will learn to lover my expectations, probably not though

What a great break in the weather for you. Following our warmest day of the year at 67 degrees, we have a Pacific storm today with rain and wind in the 40s, but it is okay. I am not working and being lazy.

I imagine it is hard to stay with the schooling once the weather hits early spring like this my friend. It is also nice here so I can see why it would be different today. Dont worry, you will catch up. Have a good day Jilly.

I think it's good that the kids learn it's OK to adjust your schedule occasionally for good reasons. Taking time to be outdoors is a good reason at this time of year when the weather is so unpredictable. Good for you!
