Trying to expand the cooking routine? Look at one of your cookbooks

When I find myself getting stuck in a cooking rut, I turn to my rather large cookbook collection. I select one cookbook and sit down with it and my grocery shopping list. I flip through it, choose a couple of new recipes to try in the upcoming week, and add the ingredients that I need to my shopping list. I also make a notation of the names of the recipes that I plan to try on the back of the list and the page numbers that they are found on in the cookbook. That way when I'm done with the shopping I can put the list in the cookbook, I won't forget what it was that I wanted to try, and I'll know exactly where to find the recipe. I just sat down with my Cook's Illustrated cookbook and found two new recipes to try next week: Chicken Vesuvio and Steak Diane. I am looking forward to trying them both!

This is a good idea. My husband does most of the cooking and he usually goes online to find new recipes.

online is good if I have a specific idea about something. Cookbooks are good for general browsing.

@JudyEv Interestingly, I've selected this week's recipes from a cookbook with no photos!
