My Garden Ornament Photo Challenge – water feature

Canada
February 20, 2016 6:49am CST
@GillyGirs challenged us to show our ornaments in the garden so here is mine. You who know me from other places know “That I love to "Camp”. Camping has been an important part of my life since childhood. My husband worked all summer and had winters off so I took my children camping every summer with my sister and her children. As an adult, my oldest son is a landscaper and he had some time time a few years ago (Canada Day weekend) and we were camping on the Sacandaga River and he joined us. I saw him carrying big rocks from the river to his truck and wondered what he was doing. When I asked he said he had an idea how to use a few of our beautiful river rocks..... I wondered how he was going to get them back across the border but I guess because they were clean and solid the border guards didn't give them a second glance. For my birthday that fall, he placed this rock fountain under my bay window so I could hear the river talk to me from spring to winter. I love it and can hear the babbling river when I go to sleep, just like while camping but quieter.

What a lovely thing to do. It would be so nice to go to sleep listening to the water babbling away.

When we camp the quiet of the night and the babbling brook/river has always put me to sleep. My son obviously was listening when I spoke of the river and the sound...or he understands because he has camped there since he was small enough to sleep in a cardboard box. I love the sound...and the man who made the water feature. Thanks for your kind words.

'tis gorgeous 'n e'er so thoughtful! i miss the sounds'f my waterfall here 'n hopefully the hubs'll get all patched 'n back up'n runnin' 'fore summer hits this year. 'course, i aint holdin' my breath. that's purty odd those border folks didn't pay no mind to those rocks. i'm purty sure they'd prolly demanded a receipt 'n asked my intent if'n i'd been haulin' 'em, lol.

@crazyhorseladycx you still can't bring fruit across the border, same with veggies. We can take dairy products, meats, eggs, cookies etc. The fruit and veggies carry provisions and dirt..not allowed to contaminate our country..

He drives a truck with his business card written on the side (landscaping) and had the rocks in the back of the truck along with his tent, his luggage, dog food (the dog rides inside) and other things. I think when you cross the border with a dog they want to see its papers and my son is a bit overwhelming, a big man with a big beard...only I know he is a softie under that manly stuff. I'll bet they never noticed the rocks... The biggie is you can't bring in dirt, so because they were clean might be the reason there was no question. You can't bring plants for the same reason, disease lives in the dirt.

@PainsOnSlate Have you ever had any problem with snakes when camping? I am really scared of snakes.

@simone10 We have only seen a couple in over 30 years, they were harmless summing themselves on the rocks. There are rattle snakes and we are warned on dry years to look for them but we've never run into one.

I love sleeping in a tent because of the river we camp next to, and the water feature does the same thing, as long as I can keep my windows open.

Very nice! We have Tennessee River Rocks in place of a typical garden around the house - they are'quiet' but no muss.

haha, first time i hear of rock smuggling! I think the guards just do not care since rocks are not expensive, and are too common to bother.

My son looks like a lumberjack. Big beard and head shaved. But he is a gentle giant and I think the border patrol probably understand that when they look into his eyes. When we moved to Canada that was one thing I learned and taught my children, take off the sun glasses and look them in the eye...and be humble Ha ha ha ha ha. I'm sure they didn't even look in the back of his truck, a rock is a rock is a rock except to me...Thanks for the laugh.
