Yesterday was the Lantern Festival, which is considered the last day of Chinese New Year, the 15th day of the first month in Lunar Calendar. Usually after this day, we will not have any Chinese New Year celebrations or visits. I was told this day is considered as Chinese Valentine's Day as well. Some will go to the bridge and throw some mandarin oranges into the rivers, and see who will pick up the mandarin oranges might be the Mr. or Mrs. Right. I never take part in this activity before, so I am not really sure how it is. We don't really celebrate this day. Though it's fun and joyful to celebrate Chinese New Year, I am also glad it's now over, so we can really be back to our normal daily life. What is your next festival to celebrate? Image: That's not a picture of Lantern festival, but just a photo we took while we visited a Buddhist temple. As it's the year of Monkey, the temple uses the theme of the famous Chinese literature - Journey to the West (about the Monkey King).

I was born in the Year of the Ox, which will not return until 2021.

My son was born in the year of ox as well. That means he will be 12 on 2021. That's fast!

@kaka135 I should count my age by the number of times that the year of the Ox has occurred. That way I would still be moderately young.

@Asylum Yes, definitely. Yesterday my son and I were counting the ages for the people who were born in year of Monkey, Ox and Dragon, it was a fun way to teach the times table.

It looks like you had a colorful celebration. It is always tiring to celebrate such event so you deserve some rest.

Yes, though it was quite tiring, we had fun as well. Nowadays I always feel more tiring going out, and prefer to stay at home.

Easter is the next festival I can think of too. Though I don't really celebrate Easter, I'd love to do some activities and make some crafts for my children as well.

There's a Chinese restaurant not far from my home that hung lanterns on its restaurant sign. I wonder if the lanterns are down now. I'll know soon as I pass it to go to the theater.

I think Chinese really likes to hang lanterns in the house or as decoration, though I don't really know the reason. I will find it out soon.

It seems only a day or two ago there were posts about the beginning of Chinese New Year and now it has ended! Time goes quickly doesn't it?

Yes, I always think time goes by too quickly. It seems like I was just preparing for the Chinese New Year, and it's over now. I always have this kind of feeling, especially seeing the kids growing up.

I don't know how the mandarin orange throwing works, it sounds quite romantic, but I think it'll surely pollute the river.
