Does Watching TV Put You To Sleep?

Last Sunday I eagerly waited for the late night replay of the Presidential Debate. But instead of watching in the living room, I watched in our bedroom. Unfortunately, even before the first round of debate started, I fall asleep already. I thought because I was excited to watch the Presidential Debate, I could stay awake but I was wrong, I fall asleep just the same. Watching TV does make me sleepy. My husband has this same tendency, but unlike me, he always wakes up shortly to switch off the TV then sleep again. What makes you fall asleep easily?

If I'm on the couch watching tv I almost always fall asleep. Not sure if it's the couch or the tv doing that to me lol.

Oh yes it does. i get so relaxed in my easy chair, and if I am not soing someting like corcheting, I will fall asleep. It sucks too, as I don't want to fall asleep early, as I know when I do, I won't fall asleep when I want to. So, now, I try to keep my hands busy, so that I don't fall asleep when I am not ready too.

@salonga I find that when I crochet or knot while watching tv, then I won't fall asleep.

It does for me too. I like watching something before bed as it does help me to get into sleep mode. Unless it is something scary!!

Watching TV with the sound low can take me to sleep better than silence. Don't know why.

There are nights when I fall asleep while watching TV. I'm usually up early with my kids, so at the end of the day, I'm usually tired. So, there are night when I'm not able to stay awake, and watching TV just puts me to sleep.

@salonga It really is. It seems that a lot of parents tend to be tired soon after the kids are in bed.

Watching TV at night will cause me to go to sleep also. I am on different medication and one of the side effects of one is drowsiness. It always hits me at night when I am trying to watch one of our shows on TV.

So it could be one of the reason. The light it emits makes our eyes tired.

yes, sometimes, the TV is my "sleeping pill", and when I nod, my son and sister laugh at me. My head moves forward, backwards, and left and right sideways. With mouth ajar and eyes half open, my son would shake me up and say,'go to bed now, mama'!

All kinds of things make me fall asleep. Things like riding in the car, watching television. If I am really tired I fall asleep at the computer.

I think reading tires up our eyes so we fall asleep easily. I also do read book and fell asleep many times.
