Good morning here on Wednesday the 24th. Here is a discussion here. Should inmates given the right to vote Maine and Vermont are the only states that allow inmates to vote. New Hampshire has a bill on this. Should inmates given the right to vote?

I think the European Courts of Human rights made a ruling a few years ago to allow inmates to have their vote.

It is weird that politicians talk about prison reform and the demographic do not have a say about it. However, every person should have the right to vote after they have done their time.

I think once they have served their time then yes. While they are in prison - no.

If they are paying the state for the food and shelter, then yes, they should be given the right to vote. Since they are not paying anything, and they cost the taxpayers so much money to feed them, and shelter them, they should not be given the right to vote. They have already taken up so much resources when they commit their crimes.

I have long felt that we need to move towards issue based politics rather than politicians and party based politics. Then such decisions become easier. Given the present situation, I would have to use discretionary rights. If the person is a rapist, no. Human trafficker, no. Terrorist no. Murderer, no, provided murder is not by somebody who has been aggrieved because of the victim, well...conditions.

I don't think so, if they can't follow the law and live a real life why bother.

I strongly believe they should not be given right to vote until they are in prison. If being in prison means taking off all rights from them, then so is vote. And under any conditions, they should not be allowed to vote coz if this happens, it will be a disrespect country's judicial system.

Ex-convicts should be allowed to vote because they were part of the society again. Inmates should face their punishment during their sentence.

I think being imprisoned should take away your right to vote.

No I don't. The broke the law why should they get to vote on laws. Once they have served their time then they have the right to vote. When you do a criminal act you give up all your rights.

I don't think inmates should vote because they've lost their rights when they decided to commit their crimes. But when upon their release, I feel that they should.

No. Losing that right is part of the punishment for their crimes. Let me put it this way: do you actually like the idea that Charles Manson has a vote equal to yours?
