Another Trip to the Dollar Store

I think I'm going to try and make another trip to the dollar store tomorrow. First I have to get my new glasses which are in. Didn't have time today with a haircut and then groceries, then dinner.
At the dollar store I have been buying food and household products for the Food Bank. They are brand name items, maybe smaller containers, but still... a donation is a donation.
The Knights of Columbus, the men's organization connected with the Catholic Church, has decided again this year to put an item aside per day over Lent for food bank items. Since my husband is a night, but lazy as hell, I do it for him. I put the last item I bought last week in the box this morning. I bought a couple of things on sale at the grocery store but I know I can get stuff cheaper at the dollar store.
At the end of Lent, each Knight should have 40 items in their box. Of course not all Knights participate, unfortunately, just like my husband wouldn't if it were up to him to do.
Keeping this going through Lent is generosity enough for me financially speaking. I can still give words.

When they first came out, these stores sold everything for a dollar. Unfortunately they couldn't keep up with those low prices and items in our dollar stores are anywhere from $1.50 to $3.50 in price. But it's still a better deal than other stores.

@patgalca I was under the impression that all items cost $1 at the dollar store.I do not think many wives would do what you are doing. You need to be admired.

@silvermist Everything used to cost a dollar but inflation has made it impossible for them to keep those low prices so up they go, but the names of the stores stay the same.

Very nice of you to buy donations since your husband isn't going to do it. The dollar store is stepping up their game with name brand items now I have noticed.

I wonder how many wives are doing what you do and helping out their husband.

You know what? I think most of the wives are the ones doing it. One gentleman stopped by our house to drop off a list for my husband and he went on and on about how much his "honey" does. This man was probably in his 70's and I raised my voice so my husband could here and said, "I love that you call your wife your honey."
The wives do a lot behind the scenes.

the Lenten season is coming, and doing these acts of generosity is good for our souls.
we also have a store here named "The P99.00 store" where all goods/products cost justP99.00; less one peso for a hundred.
