A Mouse in the House

This post was inspired by @RonElFran when he wrote asking if we reused mouse traps. Several years ago, we has a severe mouse infestation. We live out in the country, and the mice were in search of a warm place to spend the winter. After several days of spotting evidence of mice, I set out four traps. We went to bed and just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard that distinctive, SNAP. I got out of bed, emptied the trap into a pail on the back stoop, reset the trap and returned to bed. Again, I was just drifting into sleep, SNAP. Back out of bed, empty the trap, reset the trap, and return to bed. This reoccurred a few more times over the next few nights. We caught a total of about nine mice. Now we have installed an ultra sonic mouse deterrent. It seems to be holding the mice at bay.

Wow, they seemed pretty easy to catch. It always takes a day or two for us to catch any that get in the house.

I put mouse traps in each place there was evidence of mice. The ultra sound device seems to work to keep them out.

That is cool. Can't imagine the trap you used to have. Snapping. :))

The first couple of snaps were okay, but after a while I wanted to sleep.

I also use an ultrasonic mouse deterrent, I do not like to use traps that kill the animals, at most I use live traps and move the mice in the woods.

I always wondered if the electronic devices worked. Nice to know they do.

I had one mouse at one house, well maybe two now that I think about it. One house it came in via the pipes under the kitchen sink. We only had a crawl space under that house and it appeared that there was too much space around the pipes and one or more shimmied up the pipe. Odd thing was, we found it in the bottom drawer under the oven. I've no clue how we got rid of that one. Probably my husband took care of it. The other time was in a house we were renting. We'd just returned from a vacation out of town and came home after dark. When we were in one room with a little light on a mouse scurried across the floor. We figured that one came in the dryer vent hole which didn't have dryer vent in it at the time. I was surprised it was able to climb up the basement stairs. Don't remember how we got rid of that one either. I've owned sonic things in the circuits that were supposed to repel bugs, but I don't think it ever worked that great. Maybe the idea came from the one for mice even though I never saw those sold around here. If I ever live where mice are a problem, I'll consider getting one of those.

Our house in CT got it's fair share of mice, but the kitties got them. Now, on occasion, we use traps that make mice leave the house in search over water. Haven't had any since we had a lot of trees cut down.

I used those ultrasonic devices for years. I think I need to get new ones since the mice have returned. We live in the country too!!

I let the mice run wild at my cabin in Montana. They're there for more of the year than I am. But I didn't like having wood rats at my previous house here in CA. I moved out partially because my landlord refused to do anything about it.
