Business In the Finger Lakes of New York State

Canada

“So let's meet there” said my sister. We can camp for a few days at Buttermilk Falls (a favorite State Park of our mother's in her younger years). We can hike the falls, visit Corning Glass, hike Watkins Glenn and visit a few other State Parks that are there in the Finger Lakes of News York State. My sister Elaine had a two day meeting to go to. I could visit relatives or venture out on my own while she is stuck in a classroom and we can play when she gets out of school and sleep in our tent in a state park... have I ever mentioned we love to camp... We planned to go into Ithaca to have dinner that first night at Moosewood Restaurant. We both like the Moosewood recipe book for healthy eating. Dinner was delightful. Elaine changed her plans and said one day in the classroom was fine but she would rather play with me in Mother Nature. So she skipped the rest of school. We started our adventure with Buttermilk Falls. We started at the top and walked down the falls. We met so many walking up and sweating. We drove to the top, walked down and drove our other vehicle to the top to get my van..... Don't judge us, we are old.... The natural pool at the bottom of Buttermilk was closed so a ranger suggested Robert Treman State Park. Their waterfall was suffering from the heat too but their lake was spring feed and cold as ice. Very refreshing... While there we hiked a few miles of their trails. We spent a whole day at Corning Glass. It was fabulous. From watching glass blowing to spending hours in the museum. Words do not do it justice We spent the next day visiting other local State Parks. If you are camping in a state park, your registration gets you into all the state parks you want to visit while staying there. We took advantage of that, and spent the day discovering the State Parks on Cayuga Lake. The lake was beautiful and we cooled off with a swim. Our final destination was hiking Watkins Glenn. So we took down our campsite and packed it away in our vehicles. We both drove to Watkins Glenn and left in different direction to our homes after our hike. The views were breathtaking. We took the shuttle to the top and walked down again. My thanks to @Platespinner Joanne who reminded me in a comment yesterday about this trip with my sister. Have you ever visited the Finger Lakes of New York State? If you get the chance, do it. Its an amazing place' to visit.

No but Corning New York is directly north of our cottage in Pennsylvania and I have thought about visiting there, now I see that I must.

Oh my goodness Belle it is worth the trip. We spent the whole day there, they have a cafeteria inside and so much to see from ancient glass to modern. Very pleasant place and huge so you are not bumping into others while looking.

I am lucky and so is she. I'm 5 years older than she is and we really didn't like each other until we were married and had children. Then we grew close and enjoy each others company. It was camping with our kids that started a healthy relationship. We had a good time and a good adventure.

Your picture is beautiful. I've got lots of little places left to see in our own country before I begin checking out sites in the next one.

Good point. Because I grew up in NY, and my extended family is there it's easy for me to participate in an adventure there at the drop of a hat. I love living in Canada and have a whole lot more to see here too.

Lol - I don't judge you for driving up there! It sounds sensible to me. This sounds like a great trip - how long did it take?

It usually takes me 5 hours to get to my sister's place so this was half way for both of us, We both got there about the same time and we both left our homes the same time. It was an easy drive and the views were spectacular... We were there for three nights. Broke camp drove to Watkins Glen and spend a half day there then we both headed back to our homes. It was short for us but we used every minute and slept well every night. The photo was taken at Corning Glass.

I understand, I've never been to Switzerland either. It is a beautiful part of NY, I have many memories from that area growing up and later too.

I know exactly where it is. Its north of Saratoga. it was a place we played in when we were teens, and I babysat a family who had a special needs child that I was in charge of. They had a camp in the wilderness of the mountains around the lake. We got there by boat and there was no electricity or plumbing. I loved it.
