An Interesting Question Posed Today

This morning, after logging in to the online tax preparation software I used to file my tax return, I was prompted to answer three qualifying questions. Those questions were as follows:
1. Were you declared legally blind in 2015?
2. Did you become completely disabled in 2015?
3. Did you pass away in 2015?
The first two were easy to answer. I certainly got a laugh out of the third question. Was it a trick question? What would have happened if I had checked "yes" to that question? Would I have no tax liabilities at that point if I had checked "yes?"
Which brings up the most important question...how could I even answer that question if I did pass away in 2015?

I would be afraid to mess with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). They'll probably come arrest me for falsifying an official government document. And after they throw me in jail, they'll send me a tax bill. Knowing the IRS, they probably have a "lying tax" that no one knows about!

@moffittjc I can understand you not wanting to upset them. I don't think they have much of a sense of humour!

@JudyEv They have absolutely no sense of humor whatsoever. Maybe people wouldn't hate them so much if they would just lighten up a little bit and show some emotion and compassion! Even a smile would help!

I am not kidding about seeing that question on my tax preparation software. If I thought our government had a sense of humor, I would have checked yes. However, I don't trust the government, and don't want to end up in trouble with them over what should be considered a joke!

@VivaLaDani13 I've never really heard anyone quite define them as having "poles up their butt," but that is a fairly accurate description! You gave me a good laugh on that one!

@moffittjc I know right. They have a pole up their butts so probably best not to test them.

That is a strange one. Maybe it is there for people who are preparing taxes for their deceased loved ones. The form should have been worded differently though.

@moffittjc I guess that's one for the tax preparers.

I know, right? LOL I'd be tempted to check yes too. I wonder if we could get in trouble for falsifying a tax return or something.

@connierebel It's the IRS, of course you would get busted for falsifying a tax return! And then they would tax you on it!

@moffittjc This is the first thing that came to my mind. My mother has a very poor eyesight and she could never read something on a computer screen.

Anna, I didn't even think about that first question! That one doesn't make much sense either! Or maybe it's because people can be declared legally blind even when they have some eyesight left! But if your eyesight is bad enough that someone has to declare you legally blind, I doubt you are going to be able to read questions on a computer screen!

Do you want to go to jail? This is the IRS we're talking about!
Actually, you probably wouldn't go to jail. The IRS will probably tax you for lying on a form.

The person that set up the question didn't read over what he typed. This should be a lesson for everyone to read over what you type before hitting send. I think they mean did this person die in 2015.

Yup, that's exactly what they meant by that question!
