Bird Dancing on a Dog's Tail

One of our daughters has always had the most incredible luck (or talent) choosing pets. When she was a child, she picked out my husband's Brittany Spaniel bird hunting dog. She also brought home a wild, feral cat a year or two later. Then, as a teen, she bought a cockatiel bird. Within a year, she could get the bird hunting dog to lay on the floor of her room, lay the ferral cat on top of it, and then let the bird walk on them both! By the way, the lower edge of the painting in the upper left-hand corner is one she did. She is an artist and spent two years at the Art Institute before changing directions and becoming a teacher. It looks like she is now teaching her Belgium sheepdog and parakeet the same trick! I guess she just needs to find another feral cat to make the trick complete. LOL She also owned many other pets over the years, including a hunter-jumper show horse, other cats, a milk snake, mice, and a frog. She's quite an animal lover. As an adult, she is now a Special Education teacher for mentally disturbed children, and she is raising two terrific teenage children of her own. I think her patience with animals has also made her a good mother and teacher of mentally disturbed children.

That's a gift to be able to do that with animals and birds. You really need a lot of patience for mentally challenged children.

Yes, you do need a lot of patience with mentally challenged children, and the ones she deals with can be very disruptive because they are emotionally disturbed and sometimes violent.

@just4him - That explains a lot. I used to work with Special Education students, too. The vast majority of them continue to have some types of learning and behavioral problems for the rest of their lives ... as you well know.

@DeborahDiane That's the kind of classroom my oldest was part of when he was in school. He was in an ED and BD classroom alternately every year.

That bird can walk all over the dog without the dog moving a muscle to shake her off. It is incredible to me!

Yes, my daughter still paints just for herself. She has a number of paintings in her home that she has painted ... some in just the past few months. She is teaching her own daughter to paint, too.

@MsTickle - It takes a lot of work to train an animal. You have to be patient and consistent, too. Not everyone has the time and patience!

Getting animals to tame down to that extent as your daughter has been doing is indeed rare. That is a special talent and the animals understanding her so well is quite an achievement. .

Pets are fun they make our life better. As much as we spend our time among pets life is kinda cool. otherwise there is a lot of negativity going on.
