Are you as high tech as I am?

Of course, I ask that facetiously. I don't even text, and I do all of my computing at home. Even in my speaker refinishing, I just use whatever is around the house. I guess you could say I live my life with "low overhead costs." Here's a picture of how I press new veneer into a corner of a receiver cabinet I'm restoring (a Fisher 500C, worth about $800). I just glue it in and then press it with a half-full Shellac can. Are you high tech? Or low tech? Do you have ways that use use "whatever is around the house" for important projects?

I think it's kind of fun figuring out uses for things. I could be more high-tech. Just never had the desire to be.

Do you do most of your computing on a regular old desktop, like I do? Heh. I don't even own a microwave. Never have.

sometimes I will text especially in the evening hours, I will sometimes use things around the house if I have a project and I can use something that is just laying around not being used.

I'm going to invent a device where you can press a few numbers and actually speak to someone. Then texting won't be necessary. What?... Bell?...Telephone? Never mind.

@TheHorse i agree :D i'd miss the friends i've made'n the net, not so much the net itself (though 'tis handy fer readin' research). i'd much rather be 'out there' 'n unplugged from it all.

I'd miss the internet if I didn't have it. But I don't need to take it with me everywhere. There's people and nature and stuff out there.

We are definitely low-tech. We're always using scraps or 'making do'. Paints and lacquers make great weights.

They really do. And now and then I actually use the paint or lacquer.

@TheHorse We have nice little off-cuts of ply and pine which are our notebooks. When we need to write down some measurements we grab one of these.

I see that you are applying the newly discovered idea of gravity. Since you are taking advantage of the rotational power and mass of the planet I would hardly call that low tech.

@TheHorse Applying the same approach as one the world's greatest Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers is far from low tech.

When it comes to computers and software I am as high-tech as they come, but for practical fixes, like that, I use whatever comes to hand.

I might be a bit higher tech than you, but I don't have a lot of extra money to buy whatever is needed, so maybe a bit of both.

I could buy all the modern stuff. I just have no desire to. Maybe it has to do with how much better older stereo gear is than the modern stuff.
