Empty Pockets: Great Ideas

United States

Norman Vincent Peale said: “Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.” Many times, persons have great ideas, but because of the lack of money, they hesitate to pursue the success that could come from their ideas. “Where there is a will, there is a way.” That’s another popular saying that has been around for a long time. I’m not sure who said it first, but it’s been repeated over and over again in motivational seminars for years. If you have an idea that you think is worth pursuing, try to find someone to back you. It’s not impossible. There is now this show on TV here in the USA called “Shark Tank.” Investors allow persons to come on the show with their ideas, in search of financial backing. I’ve watched it a couple times and while I think it’s a great idea, I’m a little put off by the attitudes and comments of the “investors” and their arrogance. I think that there are many persons who struggle with finding a way to introduce good ideas to the world and it would be a good thing if there were a better way to be recognized for a person’s talent or invention. What do you think?

Contests could be a good idea. Someone should come up with some way to help people promote their ideas.

I've seen something similar to 'Shark Tank' and the investors can be very arrogant and off-putting. You'd need to have a thick hide sometimes to carry on with your ideas.

Yes, it takes real perseverance when you're basically broke. Even if your idea is great, someone either wants you to invest more money or they want to steal it from you.

I've seen Shark Tank and while I think it's good to have a billionaire investor I have seen some come on that already have successful online sales. If you can find your niche online then it's possible to be successful

A lot of online start-up businesses happen all the time. Young people have so many more opportunities today than I had in my youth. AND they should take advantage of that. Many of them do just that.

I agree with you, if we really want to do something, we will find a way to make it happen.

I really believe that. I have a few stories I could tell about making things happen.

There is a similar show, in the UK, and I think you are right about the attitude of the 'investors'. On the plus side it can't hurt to have your idea looked at by someone who is not so close it.

I guess some of what the show is about is scripted. The investors are told to act the way they do, so as to make the show more interesting, I guess. And who knows, what happens AFTER the show is aired.
