My home is my castle

When I lived in England this statement was true, my home had fences and a gate. No-one ventured on to my property unless they came to see me but since moving to Greece this no longer applies.
We live on a large piece of land, part of which is ours but most of it belongs to relatives who cannot build on it. As a result the land is as nature intended it to be, except for the area that is ours.
The problem is that although we have a privacy notice and a dog warning notice it is unheeded. Cars come in and use the top part of the land as a convenient place to turn, dogs come in whenever the fancy takes them, teenagers come and make a noise and the dogs respond in frustration.
Yesterday a lady came in to pick wild greens. It is the time of the year when people can be seen foraging open areas for these seasonal greens. However our land is not an open area.
The dogs barked but the lady ignored them and picked for at least half an hour. My husband does not want to appear petty so he left her to it. However my culture is different and I view my home as my castle and I have no moat to keep people out.
Perhaps I should be glad that our most recent visitor quietly picked our greens and left. When we first moved here a woman arrived with a herd of goats. When my husband complained that they were eating the olive leaves she replied that the trees needed pruning anyway!

Elsa is very photogenic and especially so among the anemonies! It is impossible to enforce without a great deal of expense.

@41CombedaleRoad Within the last few days I've written about Gnomesville where a lady is having exactly the same problems that you are.

Sounds like a lovely place that you have. Sounds like their attitude is pretty disrespectful of others property. Maybe you could get all the greens piclked before they come. Or do you eat them? Unless you put up signs and fences it seems you will continue to have people coming in.

My back is not up to bending and picking a lot of greens although I do eat them. They are a little bitter but a drop of lemon juice and olive oil perks them up.

Some people just seem to not care when they are in other peoples property

They don't seem to mind if they cause the dogs to get agitated - of course if we let the dogs out it would be a different story, but the ones who are less welcoming are contained in a large enclosure.

@41CombedaleRoad What a'' nice ''lady! She was helping to prune your olive trees.I think you need a compound wall.

She has not come back I am pleased to say, now she stays over the ravine on the other side of the hill. Goats are destructive so it is better for them to stay at a distance.

What a nervy response on her part! It does seem odd that people feel free to trespass. Is this a a case of "When in Greece, do as the Greeks do?" Is that behavior part of their culture?

Life must be interesting with all those different people coming on your property.

Interesting is not the word I would use. People do not venture on to our land to be sociable, they come for what they can take.

Love the goat story..by the way the doggie photo is so beautiful, in amongst the flowers! Looks as if he or she is smiling.
