Gnomesville in Trouble

I've written before about Gnomesville near Donnybrook, Western Australia. If you search for 'Gnomesville' the various posts should come up. Briefly, it's now a tourist attraction on the side of a country road and frequented by thousands of gnomes put there by various people.
Unfortunately people have been putting gnomes further and further afield into the paddock alongside the road. The fence was never strong and is now ignored. 'Do Not Trepass' signs are ignored too and now the land-owner is protesting about the number of gnomes on her property.
She has removed them once and even made a 'gnome detention centre' for errant gnomes but the problem is escalating. The council has now been called in and it looks like eventually a stronger fence will need to be put in place. While it's a lovely spot and very popular it's a shame people can't respect other people's property. There would then be no need for all the hoohaa which is starting to clog up our little monthly newsletter.

Oh, I would love to see this. A long time ago, our mountain bike "team" was looking for a lightweight angry gnome we could take on rides and pose in all our pictures for our website. We never found one.

There are motor-cycle clubs and bicycle clubs that have visited and left gnomes. There seems to be gnomes available with all manner of expressions. At least they turn up at Gnomesville although I don't see so many in stores.

@JudyEv - We looked all over the Internet, but the ones we liked were too heavy to lug on long rides.

Oh dear sorry to hear, I hope it sorted out, and yes maybe a stronger fence is needed.

It is a shame that there is now ill-will between the public and the land-owner.

There is enough room for all the gnomes without going into the paddock so it a great shame.

It is a shame that people can't respect other peoples property or boundaries.... I hope a happy medium is worked out so that everyone can live with the result...and the gnomes live on....

The gnomesville looks so wonderful! Thousands of gnomes? That's amazing! I am sure my children would like to visit there and greet the gnomes if we have a chance.
I am sorry to hear that the gnomes are being disturbed. Though it's not so nice to see a fence being placed, it's better for the gnomes to be disturbed or harmed by those people who are not thoughtful.

Awww, I hope someone never goes rogue and smashes the gnomes..Something like that here would be a target for miscreants I'm afraid,

Sometimes vandals come in and smash a few but there are so many, they couldn't smash enough for it to be really noticed.

@JudyEv I always loved that song though Bowie came to hate it and left it off most of his greatest hits compilations

i dunno why folks aint got more respect neither, hon. i'm certain those're the same folks who'd've their drawers'n a wad if'n it was happenin' to their property.
i hope that the new fence aids in preventin' such from occurrin' in the future. big hugs!!

@crazyhorseladycx There are so many visitors the land is getting compacted by the constant trampling. I know when we were in Scotland looking at Hadrian's Wall the same thing was happening.

What they should do is get a real gnomesville with all those little guys so they won't go homeless. They could add little trucks and lawn ornaments to keep them company and charge admission---lol!

@MarymargII For a start there was a lot of vandalism. I don't think many for stolen but vandals would go through and break a lot of gnomes. There are so many there now I think they've given up.

@JudyEv I'm actually surprised people didn't go there to take the little guys- they're always going missing here from gardens, etc.

It is a pity as it's a nice thing to have but it is almost getting too big I guess for the current site.

It would be funny if it did not make her so sad.

It is a shame there isn't a bit more public open space there for the gnomes.

Hope all can be resolved with gnomesville. It's sad when people don't have respect

It brings a lot of pleasure to many people so it would be a shame if it creates too much ill-feeling.

Yes, they are. There is plenty of room for gnomes up and down the road either side of the small parking area. The gnomes are now being placed 50 and 60 yards into the paddock and all along the little creek so it really isn't fair on the land-owner.

You would think those who enjoy the site would stay off the neighbors land. I hope it gets fixed before the whole site disappears. its so cute looking...

Those unreasonable folks are ruining such a wonderful site. The land-owner should install electric fences such as the ones you have for Herc to ward them off.
