The End Of An Era (To Me)

Yes, it is the end of an era for me. For years I had looong (long) hair, nearly to my waist and before my Uncles' Birthday, I decided it was time for a change and voila, I now have shoulder length hair, and, uh, bangs. All my cousins were shocked yesterday! They were so used to my long hair, oh well. It was a lovely 80th celebration though, and we partied for 6 hours straight! Anyway, here is what I look like now, this might be my new profile pic too, so, hi there everyone! Have a great week. Have you ever shocked family, at a family gathering, with changes to your hair?

It suits you nicely. Only things I have ever done was colour my hair blue or purple or pink. My mom just hates that

@T_gray , thanks :). I can imagine, but I think out of the norm colours on hair can look so cool!

@T_gray , that is so freaking awesome! You are lucky you can colour and style your own hair! :)

@bluesa I think it looks pretty neat when I do it. I don't do my whole head. Just parts. I am a cosmetologist, so I kinda know what I am doing when I do it. hehe.

Did you post a photo, I do not see it. I cut my very long hair when I was around 38, shorter hair is more practical.

Hi, Anna, I did, but, it did not load the first time, I have edited the photo in now. @LadyDuck, so, I cut mine a year after yours, though luckily mine is not too short, just not as long as everyone was used to :-).

People always told me I'd cut my hair because shorter would be easy. I didn't because mine is incredibly low maintenance. I can't imagine anything would be easier or more practical.

@bluesa I see the photo now, the first time I cut my hair I also cut shoulder long, then I cut a bit more, but not as short as my avatar.

O, how I wish my wife would also sport a "shoulder-length-hair." I just don't like long hairs. I find shoulder-length or even shorter really sexy!

@antonbunot , my cousin was so shocked that I had cut my long hair. Thank goodness there are men who appreciate shorter hair.

@antonbunot , true. I do remember Twiggy, short platinum blonde hair, big eyes, quite beautiful. :)

@bluesa O, yeah, there were lots of men who loved twiggy . . not only loved by the late Frank Sinatra. Remember Twiggy?

The great thing about hair is that if you make a mistake, it grows again.

@boiboing , so true, and, uh, my one cousin seated at the table with me kept saying that, which I would guess means he did not like my new look at all :D!

@bluesa Some people just can't deal with change. If you like it, then that's all that matters.

@boiboing I just saw the picture. Of course I love it because it's exactly the same as my hair! I also had bum-length hair when I first started work but cut it to shoulder length in an attempt to be noticed for something OTHER than having bum-length hair.

Your photo is lovely. I like your style. I have very short hair, cut into a pixie, I love it short and have no patience when it's long...

I think it looks great:). Have I ever shocked my family with changes to my hair...uh, well my ranges have been from black hair-purple hair-dreads-long hair-and shaved head...so, that's probably a yes;).

@HebrewGreekStudies , oh, nah ah, you should so let your hair grow and then go all Mohican! A whole new, uh, phase ;)

Thank you :) @HebrewGreekStudies . You are adventurous! I love that you tried all those different styles and colours, but, then, uh, you went and shaved your head, so, now the shocks are over, unless you colour your beard? ;)

@bluesa the beard is too dark to colour, alas...but it's always a shock to ppl when I let my hair grow back-then they think "oh he's being normal again and is done with his phase"...then I shave it off again;)

That was really a big surprise for your relatives! One of my neighbors is quite well known of her long hair as well, about waist-length too. She had been keeping it for about 7 years. She just recently cut her hair short, until shoulder length as well, partly because she donated her hair to the charity. Did you keep your hair that you have cut? Mine has been always shoulder length or just short hair, so no surprise for me.

@kaka135 , it is wonderful she gave her hair to charity. No, I did not keep the hair that was cut. Yes, my cousins were so used to my long hair, they were quite shocked.

You look great in the picture. I have been keeping my hair short and only recently since the last few months I decided to grow it. It is taking years it seems. I wonder why I am doing it though. Long hair is a hassle in a way.

@allknowing , thank you :), sometimes it does seem to take hair forever to grow, but I find long hair easier, because I can just wash and air dry it, now with the shorter length, I have to style it. I hope your hair gets to the length you want soon.

Wow that must have taken some doing. It looks lovely and just think of how much time you are going to save waiting for it to dry when you wash it. You should definitely use that as a profile photo.

I recently went in for a trim, I asked the stylist to trim 1/2 inch, apparently she missed that day in school, cause she cut about 2-3 inches.

@lilnana1111 , that is so frustrating when that happens! I don't know what they do not understand about the word trim, not cut, just trim already!

@bluesa I am useless at doing anything with my hair so it has to be a wash and wear style for me.

There are times that some of my family members will be surprised if I have a new haircut. I think the more striking changes and different reactions will come to women's new hairdo.
