She's How Old?

Today we went to one of our local restaurants. It is a family style place that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One of my former daycare Mom's and her husband own it. I was so happy as we entered and one of the children I cared for was there to seat us and wait on us. So hard to believe she is 15 years old already. When I started caring for her in my family daycare she was just 2 and her brother was 1. They've grown up so fast. She was so sweet and remembered us (me and my hubby) though I was a little surprised that she did. Because I haven't seen her in a long time I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't remember me. We had a lot of fun reminiscing and talking about her life now. It was just so wonderful to see her and get some Sammi hugs again! Oh and the food was delicious! I'll write about that in another post.

I can imagine it was amazing to see how much the children you have cared for has grown over the years. There was a time when I lived in Vegas and wasn't able to see my grandchildren for a couple of years. It seemed like they grew so much during that time away.

I do think when you don't see them all of the time the changes are much more pronounced.

@kamel622 Yes, I think so too. My youngest granddaughter was only 6 months old when I left to go to Vegas so of course she didn't know me when she saw me. That kind of hurt but I knew it would.

It was a great reunion. I was sorry her mom wasn't working at the time but I'm sure I'll see her there sooner or later.

It's amazing how fast kids seem to grow when you don't see them very often. I have a few nieces and nephews that I don't get to see very often and when I do it's hard to believe how old they've gotten (even though they are close to my kids' age).

It really does make a difference when you don't see them frequently. She just grew up so fast...really surprised me.

Maybe her mom or dad saw you come in and clued her in before she sat you at your table? It is good to see those kids we had contact with when they and we were younger. Our daughters used to babysit for the kids next door who were then five, three and one littler one. Now the oldest is around twenty which is also hard to believe. They moved from our neighborhood several years back. THis comment brought to you by: Marymarg, or L Jenkinson.

I would have thought that but mom wasn't working. I did see her a couple of years ago so was happy that she remembered me and this time it was with a hug...at 13 she gave me almost polite smile and that was it. lol

What a sweet kid! I think kids don't have a hard time recognizing adults or anything for that matter. It's adults like us, who will sometimes not recognize kids because they grow up so fast=)

I think it is hard for them if they haven't seen the adult in some time....because I work with them when they are so young unless a connection continues they just don't remember. A sad fact as a daycare teacher.

@kamel622 Yes, that also happens. It's really sad if your former students failed to recognize you.

I think they've grown up even faster than my own kids did, which was way too fast.

Sounds like a lovely place to eat out... And being friends with the owners makes it like having meals at a friend's house or something...

It is hard to believe how fast time seems to fly when you look up at those who have grown up and suddenedly you are looking up at them instead of down as they now tower above you in height.
