Two days away from the daily routine is always welcome, and when it's in Napier, just over two hours from home that's always a welcome break. That's where I've been for the last two days, staying in our favourite motel on Marine Parade, along the shoreline shown at the bottom right of this photo. We were there to celebrate a couple of family birthdays. It's still really summer here and Napier has higher temperatures than where I live in my inland city. When we left to come home today the temperature was 32C. Last night we all went out to dinner at our favourite seafood restaurant, which is further around the bay and looks out over the sea. It's a place we often eat at there. The two men had seafood chowder and I had crispy calamari. The only blot on the whole trip was a call from the security service, to say our home alarm had been activated. They checked it out and assured us nothing seemed to be wrong, which is what we found when we came home a few hours earlier than planned today. Heaven knows what set the alarm off! Now, it's back to a normal routine, with plenty of memories to keep us going till next time.

I like it even more for it's surrounding vineyards and orchards, and also fresh seafood

What a beautiful place where to stay and celebrate birthdays. I am glad that the alarm was nothing serious.

Our son has been living there for a year, so we visit him when we can.

@valmnz It's a wonderful place where to live. New Zealand seems to be one of the few left Paradise on earth.

That looks like paradise to me. Our alarm up north at our other home went off for no apparent reason while we were staying in Florida, 1500 miles away.

We were only two hours away, but chose to stay on. We decided had anything really been wrong the security firm would have got back to us.

It is about 32C here now but the evenings are getting cooler and the days not quite so hot. That is a lovely photo of Napier.
