My Son Becomes a Teenager Today!

Please pray for me...I officially have two teenagers living in my house!
My son turns 13 today. Well, he officially turns 13 at 2:02pm this afternoon.
When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, I expected to hear what all kids these days want: video games, electronics, a new smartphone, a laptop, a tablet, etc. But no, he completely surprised me! Other than a new Lego set--which I had expected he would ask for since he produces stop-motion animation videos using Lego scenes--he asked for camping and outdoor gear.
Since we are getting ready to go on a couple of outdoor excavations in the next couple of weeks, I hooked him up with plenty of gear: tent, hammock, backpack, machete, hatchet, knife, wilderness survival kit, canteen, etc.
The kid...um, I mean young man...is now ready for some great camping adventures!
Just to remind him that he's not quite a man yet, I did get him a singing Spongebob birthday card! lol

@LadyDuck Me too! I would rather receive a humorous birthday card than a serious one! It's already depressing enough that each year we get one step close to the grave, so it's nice to lighten it up a bit with a sense of humor!

@JudyEv That sounds like me now, after playing with my son for a few hours building Legos! He has to help me get up off the floor! It's no fun getting older! haha

@moffittjc When the kids were tiny we had a guy stay for a few days. After the boys went to bed, the two men carried on building a geared crane affair from Lego which dumped a fishing sinker on a matchstick and pushed it into some play dough. They had a lot of fun but the best part was seeing them trying to get up after spending several hours on the floor.

@VivaLaDani13 There is some serious amount of adult humor in SpongeBob, which is why I like it so much! It's funny, because kids have no idea, and the adult humor is just way over their heads!

Thank you! He does like to play video games, but fortunately he doesn't spend too much time playing those games. He likes to be active and outdoors.

I don't think I ever have to worry about that with my son! He's got such a big heart, and such a personable smile, that I don't think he'll ever lose that inner "kid" in him! (at least I hope not).

Other children should have asked for video game or smart phone. But you are lucky one.
