Medieval Scotland : Cadzow Village (1000 years old) may have been found

Construction to repair the M74 in Scotland has uncovered what researchers think is Cadzow Village, later renamed to Hamilton in honor of the Dukes of Hamilton, who owned land nearby. Anyway, they've uncovered coins and a stone that marks the place where a cross once stood. It appears that the bridge repair team in the 1960's came across some of it and chose to work around it as best they could so as to not disturb the site. I read about it here :
THE LOST medieval village of Cadzow may have been finally located after artefacts more than 1,000 years old were unearthed during upgrading work on the M74.

I think this sort of thing will happen more and more with all the new construction projects planned here. They only found Richard 111 due to construction in that car park.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are things like this covered by construction already, lost until they too need to be repaired.

Isn't it though? The article doesn't really elaborate on what they might have to do currently to keep the motorway safe for travel. I hope they'll still be able to preserve this old site.

How cool is that!!! I love to read about Scottish history. I am currently reading the Outlander series. It delves into the history and I am quite enjoying the read.

That is a series I've wanted to pick up for a long time. I love reading somewhat fictional books and then going back and doing research to see how much was true and how much was elaborated for entertainment purposes.

@ScribbledAdNauseum my sister gifted me the first in the series and then gifted me the second book. Now to hurry up and finish the first so I can go on to the second.

That is good news. I am glad they choose to work around it rather than destroying it.

It was the site of a cross so I think they worked around it for religious reasons.

So much history in our world, It makes me happy when "forgotten" things are found again.

This is fascinating Reality. Yes, best that they try not to disturb it. It is so very ancient.
