Do you have pen pals?

When I was growing up, I had a lot of pen pals all over the US and a few in other countries. I loved it! I got beautiful letters in the mail and learned a lot about our country and our planet. And I grew very close to the people I wrote to. Today, it's been years since I've had a pen pal. I chat with people daily on Facebook and even in email, but I don't get those beautiful letters anymore. I am writing to the son of a friend who is in the military, and I do look forward to his letters all the time. But now I'm actively seeking one or two pen pals to make a new friend or two and have those letters coming regularly. What about you? Do you have any pen pals? If so, how did you find them? -Claudia-

I learned about postcrossing from two other members, both from Bubblews. Val was the first to mention it, and Inlemay is now part of it as well. I'm going to sign up for it. It's a site where you send postcards to people all over the world. I just need to find out where to buy postcards from and get the International stamps for them. I'm looking forward to this new adventure in penpals.

@CRK109 I'm on the hunt for postcards. I already have one on the way. I can't wait until it gets here. I'm excited and I haven't signed up yet, but I'm going to as soon as I have postcards in hand.

Britt and I did a LOT of that in the late 90s/early 2000s. He collected postcards and we would, in return, send postcards from our area. And that got us out and on the road all over our state to find different places that sold different kinds of postcards. It was so much fun! But with no car, I can't do that anymore and I really do miss it. But you should have a lot of fun meeting people in that way! And the postcards can be gorgeous! :)

I had one penpal for about 30 years. I did find her on Facebook, but after I messaged her, she never responded. And we had lost touch years ago when I had gone through a divorce. It's sad to lose a good friendship like that.

As a teenager I had a few penpals but not any more. I enjoyed writing to people in other countries. If I didn't MyLot I'd be keen to have penpals. I'm not sure how you'd go about finding them however.

I have noticed that Facebook has tons of penpal groups, so it seems that the art of letter writing is still alive and well. I spotted a couple of those groups for women only and I'm going to see if I can find a penpal or two in one of those groups. We'll see how that goes! :)

@CRK109 That's good - that there are groups for would-be penpals. Hope you find someone(s) to correspond with.

I had pen pals growing up as well. The down side to technology is we have lost the art of writing personal notes and letters anymore. The upside to technology is some of the ones I use to write to I now can write them and in a second or two they can read it and reply. I do still write an occasional card or note to someone but not like I use to. Have a blessed day

I know. The world has changed. And I don't mind. I love being online and keeping in touch with friends this way. But I also love reading letters and spending the time to "visit" with them on paper. I know that Facebook has all sorts of groups for penpals, so maybe I'll find someone there. :)
