How I deal with annoying phone calls

You all can love your cell phones but I'll stick with my landline until the day I die. I am not important enough to have a phone attached to my ear day in and day out. One thing people like me complain about are the annoying phone calls - you know the ones from political organizations or telemarketers. Well, I don't have that problem and you wouldn't either if you had the right caller ID. I don't mean the basic one that shows you the number of the person calling, but the one that tells you - yes, a talking caller ID is the only way to not be annoyed by those pesky intruders. We originally bought a unit, a talking caller ID that worked and still works very well. But when I bought a new Panasonic cordless phone it had a built-in talking caller ID. So if we don't want to be bothered jumping out of our chairs to answer an unwanted phone call, we just listen for the caller ID to give us the information we need to determine if we pick up the phone or not. No more coming up with ways to discourage a telemarketer. A talking caller ID does the work for us! Thanks to @JudyEv for the idea for this discussion. Photo is mine.

NO problem here.we do not have land line phone .Threw them out years ago.I love the sounds of silence. Cell phones and my blue tooth is enough for us.Ever since we got rid of the land line.No more annoying call.Plus we save plenty of dollars

Our landline is unlimited local and long distance for $20 a month - way cheaper than a cell phone and it won't give me cancer.

I don't have a landline and have my mobile always on silent. I only take the calls from numbers I recognise :D

Agree with you 100%. However, not answering the phone and letting caller ID screen does not discourage telemarketers from relentlessly calling and you still are annoyed by the rings.

They are computer generated calls, there are no real live people on the other end. A ringing phone doesn't annoy me. If I had to talk to one of them that would more than annoy me.

We just got rid of our landline because we are moving. Not sure if we will ever get one again.

Not sure I'd ever rely on a cell phone.

Our landline phone has the caller ID feature, we always had since we bought the house 15 years ago. We can also block the unwanted numbers.

@AbbyGreenhill I receive calls from Italy, but it's from family and from Switzerland, sometimes from numbers that I do not know, but it can be the hospital for my husband or a request from the authorities, I do not dare not to reply.

@LadyDuck Request from the authorities? That sounds scary!

As long as I don't have to answer them they are as good as blocked. We only answer calls from our area code and the area code for New Jersey. Other than that we aren't interested.

lol, just because I have a cell does not mean it's glued to my ear. I could see a talking ID thingy be something my Gram might like though

MY daughter has talking caller ID and tells me all the time I should get one. I still have the old fashioned one where I have to look to see who's calling. It would be easier to just listen to see if it's a call I want to take. Maybe I should ask for that for Mothers DAy?

They aren't expensive so ask for that plus a dinner out LOL!
Set the infrared wireless motion sensor to ring a pleasant chime when visitors approach, or shriek a piercing alarm when it detects intruders. Ideal for doors, sheds, gar

We have them in CT. Although we have a landline in Florida, too, it seems we only get those annoying calls on our cell phones. Grrrrr

I don't use a cell phone, I have one just in case of emergency - like when the weatherman says to go your safe place.
