At 7.30 P.M on the road

I was on my way home after the work in the office was over. My office was located some 12 k.m from the main road in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh. I was working as the chemist in chemical Industry soon after completion of my Master degree though it was entirely a different line. The road from office to the main road was not the good one. Only the mark was visible. Almost a rough road made by regular walkers and which was subsequently marked as a road. Thanks to the Municipal authorities who made a good road now. It was 7.30 P.M when I hit on the road as usual. It was sometimes quite common for me to walk such distances very easily. I liked it. It was my first experience to take that route. It was a winter night. The weather was quite chilly. The fog was slowly building up sending some cool chill in the body. It was dark very soon. The route is devoid of any buildings as it was not developed yet. It was only after taking the main road one will find and get some transportation. There were thick bushes and some made plants on either side of the road and except the sound of bees and other creatures there was nothing to hear or look. I increased the speed of my walk. Slowly it started drizzling. I increased my speed some more. After covering half of the distance I noticed a lady. She was in white saree and was walking very fast. She was coming towards me on the other side of the road. Slowly she approached me walking and started asking me the route to a place (YERRAMUKKAPALLI). I REALLY wondered how this lady was coming alone in such dark night without any accomplice enquiring about a place which is far away. I told her that it is unsafe to take that route and asked to take a transport reaching the main road. Her face was not visible as she covered it with the other edge of her saree wrapped around her face. She said “OK…OK…”. The voice was very peculiar. It resembled neither of a gent's voice nor of a lady's one . She proceeded further. I turned my head on the road and started walking only to hear “ GO…GO…YOU LUCKY GUY…TODAY YOU ESCAPED”. I Could easily guess as to what happened and what it was. I started sweating out profusely. I started walking with some more speed. It was a speed walk. By the time, I could reach house it was only 8.30 that included the time of transport from the main road. Even today when I recollect the incidents there will be goose bumps on my hands. The next when I inquired I was informed that there was a lady who committed suicide jumping into the well nearby that road and that many people have noticed it while on their walk during night times. But, it is not so horrifying as the one I experienced in the heart of the city of Hyderabad. (I will tell in my another post)

It has been a scary adventure, but if she/he was a ghost you would have been unable to escape.

Anna, I have walked this city in nights. Late nights well past midnight..around 1 or even 3 am. There is no public transport at the time to go home. Auto rickshaws are other means of transport, but at that time, you don't want to take a risk if you are a lady. After all, why should you trust an auto rickshaw driver? So I walked as I did not have a vehicle. There are street dogs. If there is any such things you won't hear street dogs for sure. I remember days when I feared walking alone carried heavy stones in both my hands just in case I needed them, and felt glad to see somebody walking at a distance. People from from a stockbroker business here do walk down late in the night...so on some days you just feel happy to see another human being doing the same thing as you are doing, and it does not matter if it is male or female. You don't feel like walking very close to the person too, because you can't trust and yet you don't want to be too far since you want him to hear you in case you need help. Given that as logic, I would say the lady took refuge of darkness. As to voice being different, people do have different voices. If he understood the query, it is fine. White color is preferred clothing for nights especially in places where there is not sufficient light as it can be seen somewhat. I am left to wonder from where the ghosts get their textiles from. I am not saying he did not experience it. I am saying he may have been expecting something like that because the road was dark and lonely and the mind manifested it combining it with whatever was the reality.

that was a bit scary and funny at the same time. if shes a ghost, i dont think she'll let you know how lucky you are to eacape. if shes a robber, why did she let you go.

the moment I realized that it was a ghost I started chanting a Mantra which is meant to ward off ghosts and other evil spirits.

It was probably not a ghost you encountered but a robber or a rapist or a thief who dressed as a lady in white saree. No ghost will ever say go...go .. you lucky guy ...today you escaped. I find it odd for a ghost to tell you that. What do you think?

@mammots: I moment I turned my head there was no one. I immediately realized that it was ghost. It was later confirmed by the local people. That is why she told me like that. There is one more experience which happened right in the city at midnight. I will post that also. It was really a terrific experience. Did you have any experience with ghosts?

Another one of those aspirations eh? I see them from time to time when driving at night. Not a ghost but something.

That would have been scary. I don't think I would have traveled that way again especially at night.
