Just Speechless

Some of you may know of my relationship with a raptor, an osprey we named Orville. Last year, we watched Orville teach his young sons to fish. This year, he gives them loud whistles as they fly together, which sound like a whistle a man might make when trying to get someone's attention. Yesterday, I saw one of his three sons fishing. I called to him, and he flew to my window to get a good look at me. I wish I had my camera ready, but the photo here is of him returning to fish. Too bad he doesn't chirp and tweet like his daddy to give me warning of his arrival. We were both just speechless. P.S. While writing this, I had to halt. Orville just dropped by for a visit. The lady walking on the beach was left speechless, too, when I called to him and he flew to my window while busy fishing.

What a beautiful picture. You and Orville have quite a relationship, and I am sure in time you will develop one with his offspring as well.

There is so much we need to learn about our flora and fauna. I have these Drongos visiting my birdbath. They chirp in about 8 different ways including a cat's meaow.

@DianneN That's comical, the snowbirds and the homebirds hanging together. Can you tell I've been left alone too long today and am starting to feel better?

@Juliaacv Lol! I was very surprised when my hubby said he'd return. I think he likes his new car more than Florida. Glad to hear you are starting to feel better, but you still have to rest. You wouldn't want a relapse. Trust me.

We're planning to fly down again, before next winter, now that we finally have a car here. We'll surprise the birds -- and people who consider us snowbirds. I miss Doodles!

I guess Orville has not taught his children to greet you properly. Give him some time. He has to teach the young ones to feed themselves before teaching them other manners.

@DianneN , how lovely that his son came to say hi, but, then Orville decided he wanted some attention too, it really is an amazing bond, Dianne. I could just imagine the look on the face of that lady. :)

Thank you, Alice. I hope to see Orville every year. I couldn't bear it if something happened to him. We had a wonderful season down here, but it ends April first. I received my 4 months and won't get one day more, according to my husband. Lol! I'm grateful for those four months, but miss seeing the kids.
