A Visit To The ER

My burned hand

I had a stupid accident last evening, while I was making dinner. I had a roast baking in the oven, my niece has joined us for dinner. To help me, she has removed the pot from the oven and put it on the kitchen counter. I have seen the pan, I forgot it was hot and I grabbed the handle with my bare hand (the left hand). Result, second degree burn on te palm and big part of the fingers. I had to rush to the ER for medication and I have to go back in the afternoon for medication. I am very slow typing with one hand only. If I do not reply to your comments, you know the reason. Stupid accidents can have serious consequences, be careful in the kitchen.

Ouch, I am so sorry that happened to you. I can only imagine how painful that is. Get well soon, follow the Doctors orders and take it easy while recovering.

I will follow what the doctor will tell me to do. I hope that from tomorrow I can do the medication without going to the hospital.

Oh dear, clumsy Anna. This reminds me of an occasion many moons ago while I was living with my parents. My mother turned on the electric hotplate on the oven and after a while wondered if it was getting hot, so she put her hand on to check.

Not your fault, you just forgot about it and this happened. I remember one time me and grandma put a bread bun with the napkin along with it. good thing she noticed and didn't switch the toaster on. I hope you recover soon @LadyDuck. Another event that remind me was when my nephew wasa kid he touch the iron when it was still hot

Thank you Judy, it is painful. I am not sure if I want to see my hand today, I prefer to think it's going to heal in a few days.

@JudyEv I am just back from the hospital, they have changed the bandage and checked that there is no infection. I have to go again tomorrow and after tomorrow. At least it does not hurt anymore.

@SIMPLYD Today it does not hurt if I do not touch the center of my palm, that is the most affected area. My fingers are free now, I can type!

This time the home remedies were not enough, the doctor gave me also a pain killer, because the hand hurts so much.

@LadyDuck Are you left or right-handed? My son broke his fingers few years ago playing basketball and had a hard time using just one left hand as he's right-handed.

@sishy7 I am right handed, but when I was 7 year old I broke my right elbow and I had serious complications, I learned to use my left hand, because I was unable to use my right hand and arm for almost two years.

@Inlemay At first, they thought that the fingers were more burned, it was hard to judge, but the day after it was evident that only two fingers and the palm have big blisters, the other three have only minor burns.

OH Anna poor you. I guess it is an easy mistake to make. The busy times for us here in the UK is around Sunday lunch time when people would come to A&E with burns from doing exactly the same sort of thing or worse dropping the hot burning oil down the front of their legs and feet. I hope that it heals up nicely and you are not in too much discomfort. Don't worry about replying just get yourself better soon!

Thank you Gary, the hot oil is horrible, the hot water is only 100 degrees, it's not as bad. Today I am going to ask to the doctor how many days he thinks I need to rest the hand.

@LadyDuck You should milk it for as long as you can. Tell your husband your doctor has ordered you not to cook for a month! He will have to take you to restaurants for meals. Tell him it is ok because it will save him from having to do the washing up! That will motivate him!
