No Building going On

Building work

Making my way to the shops this morning, I passed this block of flats that have been under construction since last Summer. In this time the old office block across the road has been converted to apartments and few other, smaller, blocks have gone up near by. I am thinking that this is because the contractors all seem to disappear for several weeks and then, there is a sudden burst of activity when, they all return. Are they going off to other sites or is there a bit of cash flow holdup? Anyway, while things at this building are on a hold, work is starting on another block very shortly, near me. Its all go!

Well I hope they hurry up and finish them as plenty of people need a home. Not only that the more they build the cheaper the rents.

@Ronrybs, I agree with you on this one: no guarantee about the rent being cheaper because there are more buildings.

Maybe the builders of this building are having money problems.

They must be temporary as this stop, start has happened before

I believe that they go to other sites, I have seen this happens in different countries.

The stop start nature of the work makes me wonder

That is very strange to me. Here, once something begins, it continues until it's done.

Everywhere else that has been the case, so I don't know what is going on there

Maybe they get progress payments on several projects so they alternate back and forth.

@Ronrybs Builders here tend to have several houses on the go at once. That way, they don't lose the business and if they're clever can keep all parties sort of satisfied at the rate of progress.

Something is going on, just leaving it sitting must cost them

@JudyEv Wouldn't be surprised if that is what is going on here!

Usually there are deadlines to get things and no construction means losses for the construction company.

Thats what I thought, but it's not the first time this has happened.

They have to go to other sites. It makes the most sense.
