Those Pearly Gates Can Wait.

I used to touch my toes with ease When I was young and fit, Can still do it if I please I just sit down to do it. I'm lucky to still have my wits, The years they have been good, Sad that I can't do the splits But hey - I never could! Though you may think I'm in the queue For that pearly gate, I'm not yet ready to go through St. Peter - he can wait! But when the bell it tolls for me I will not fear it's strike, I've lived a life both full and free, What's there not to like! Who cares that I am getting old? Not me, I'm having fun, I enjoy these years of gold, A bonus - every one. _______________________________ My photo of the Norwegian fjords which I visited for the first time at age 75. You can enjoy new things no matter what age you are.

@jaboUK It is that, and not to judge someone who isn't your age. I learned that lesson very young in life.

@DeborahDiane Yes I know you savour life too Deborah. It annoys me to see people (often a lot younger than me) bemoaning their lot. Can't they see that they are only making things worse by dwelling on negatives?

@slund2041 I only have a little point and shoot camera, but some shots do come out well. This photo was taken at about 10pm - it stays light very late when it's that far north in the summer.

@slund2041 In the really Northern regions sometimes the sun never really goes down. That's what is referred to as 'The land of the midnight sun'.

Yep, no time for St Peter yet, now's the time to do what you've never been able to before .... ok, I don't mean touching them toes or walkin for miles but like you I'm doing what I never had the chance before, to stay home and create something of my own. That is a beautiful photo, I think if I'd been raised in Europe or Britain I'd probably want to travel all the time, you're so close to all the things I've always been interested in, like Stonehenge for example.

Absolutely outstanding @jaboUK . And a gorgeous picture. I always wanted to go to the Pyramids of Egypt but that's out; I wouldn't be able to stand the flight time. There's only 1 thing left that I'd like to do and that is to swim with the Dolphins.

@nanette64 I've been to the Pyramids but they were spoilt for me by the hordes of other tourists, and by too many Arabs trying to scam you. I suppose it's the same for every other major tourist attraction in the world. I hope your dolphin dream comes true.

@just4him Thanks, I'm so pleased that you can relate to the poem. It's true that the older we get the more we keep moving the goalposts as to what we consider old. Now, I won't consider myself old till I'm 90

@jaboUK You're right. My goalpost when my grandchildren were little was 80, but now that age is creeping up too and I do not feel old, so I'll go along with 90 until that goalpost comes in view.
