Can a retiree take a vacation day?

Of course, I just took one today. After an early morning trip to Walmart and then the grocery store most of the morning was gone. After lunch I had some chores to take care of.
Once that was finished we hit the pond - looking for Jaws. I didn't find jaws but a few of his very distant relatives! The first fish I caught was only about 3 inches long, so I did improve as time went on.
It was nice sitting out in the sun enjoying the nice weather. They are saying Sunday night we might go down into the low 30's but not much I can do about it. I only worry about things that I can do something about.
So, as my 'vacation' day winds down, I hope you all had a great day.
Photo is mine. That's my husband's hand holding the line so I could take the photo.

I love mini vacations. We often go for a venture to visit relatives that live in NY. Fishing is our favorite past times. We go as often as we can.

@AbbyGreenhill we stay pretty much close to home. I would like to go deep sea fishing in Maine or New Hampshire one day.

@ElusiveButterfly We used to travel back and forth to NJ, but no longer, too long a ride and most family are gone.

@AbbyGreenhill The best benefit of retirement is being able to travel when others are working, which is always a cheaper option.

I know what you mean, but then again being retired we can laugh at all of those who have to go to work on Monday morning while our weekends continue on and on and on.

@AbbyGreenhill Very slowly healing, I still have the big blister on the palm and the fingers are insensitive, but they should heal in a couple of weeks.

You guys take a lot of vacation days - good for you. With a dog, we can't do much of since we have to take her with us.

@JudyEv We have no one to take care of Ruby - no one I would trust to treat her like we do. So she goes and we are fine with that.

@AbbyGreenhill Luckily Herc - I wasn't going to say 'doesn't mind staying home' but I think he minds a great deal! Maybe we should take him in the bus with us. :)

Isn't every day a vacation day for a retiree? I hope so.

It's good that myLot is helpful to you and to many of us. I like fishing in the pond, when I get bored I just come inside!

@AbbyGreenhill Then it does not matter even if there are only a few of them. There will always be fish to do your fishing.

@silvermist There are a lot of them in there, some we bought so we know of at least two dozen plus whatever was there before that. Plus now there are lots of little ones, so someone is having babies.

Yes, I just catch them for fun, then they go back in the water for me to catch another day.

I am glad you had a good day. I was just telling my husband the other day that we should get our fishing licenses and go fishing since my parents gave us their old fishing poles and tackle box.

My husband has a lifetime fishing license for TN. I did't get or need one. We have fresh water and salt water fishing equipment. He's got some poles that would catch Jaws.

I could use a vacation day in my retirement. My husband had planned a week long getaway for the end of April. We have had to cancel it.

@AbbyGreenhill my father is living with us. He does not like to be alone. I had hoped one of my siblings would step up and take him for the week, but they all tell me they need to go to work. That leaves me. With getting him into a day program we will also qualify for the respite program. Hopefully by the end of June we can get him into respite so we can actually go away for a week. I know I need to get away from everything and so does my husband.

I plan on taking some vacation days as soon as the weather warms up. A fishing hole is what I will be seeking as well.
