Like Do You Like to Like?

I have wondered lately if it makes a difference if we click on the Like button at MyLot. On other sites, people are paid based on many factors, number of Likes being one of them. I’m still not sure how we are paid here. I know, interacting is key, and I do that. But what exactly does that entail? In my Notifications I see most people appear twice. One is when they Like something I have written, and once is when they respond or mention my user name. Then there are the people who only appear once. I was curious about that, so I looked down the list. Most of those who appear only once, did not click on Like for some reason. From their response, I can tell that they did in fact like what I wrote. Maybe they just forgot to hit the button. Or, maybe they know something I don’t know, that it doesn’t matter (if that is the case). I am just curious. I read over the rules when I joined, but I think I don’t really understand how we are paid here. Does it change how much someone is paid, if they click on the Like button, or if they receive more Likes? Do you know something that I don’t know?

Like I still don't know if it makes a difference, but I've trained myself to hit the like button if a post is worthy of a comment. It can't hurt, I reckon.

That is exactly what I do too. But I wonder if it is helpful to anyone.

Good question, I personally think we should not get paid for likes as this encourages people to like and move on. I am under the impression that it's the discussions we participate in that makes up the cash.

@JolietJake I understand that, but there are people just liking down the line and for me that's where the site goes wrong as Bubblews demonstrated.

@JolietJake Idiots yes, so if all you do here is like you are still not earning? Because I'm sure some think you do.

There has been a fair amount pf discussion about this is the past, but in reality nobody is really certain. The earnings criteria at Mylot have always been kept private by the admin in order to avoid people trying to manipulate it to their own benefit. As for usernames occurring twice, this is usually because someone mentions your name while making the comment, whereas simply adding a comment will result in just one notification.

@JolietJake We appear to have been reading different FAQ pages because I have never seen that mentioned.

@JolietJake That seems a personal interpretation and certainly not clearly stated as you previously said.

That is what I have found. No way around it. It seems redundant, but I might miss someone if I eliminated one or the other.

I don't really understand how all this works in the end. I am here because I enjoy it.

It only came to mind today because they have decided to move the goal posts on redemptions temporarily. It came to mind that I don't know how to generate more money, and maybe someone else does.

@JolietJake replied, we are paid when people show interest in what we write and liking an article is showing interest. You can modify your notification settings, so you will not receive notifications for every like.

@ElizabethWallace I did the same and I turned off the notifications via email, I received too many emails.

@LadyDuck I turned that off too. I don't need to be notified instantaneously about almost anything in life.

I limited the notifications I receive, so that I won't miss those from people I enjoy reading.

I've always presumed that it does help the people I 'like' as I am reacting to them. It definitely helps their 'stats' as that helps decide where the post is on the 'top' and 'hot' lists.

@ElizabethWallace Well of course that's what I do as well (read and write what interests me), but it's still satisfying to see your own post at the head of the lists. Nothing to do with the money.

Does getting on one of those lists really matter? The money is so low, that adding a little to it seems a wasted effort. I would rather just read and write by what interests me.

I'm not sure if we are paid for the likes but I thin yes because it's an activity. I usually do all the three; like, comment, and mention.

@silvermist Yes, and I received a message with lots of detailed information. It seems that everything we post is considered a "post". I was thinking the term only applied to articles we write, but comments and likes fit the definition too.

I actually read it somewhere I think it's a post by Alex, that the amount of "likes" a post get in 24hr is how the "top rated" list is made

@ElizabethWallace It's under the "Explore" tab. Second to "interesting" which by the way is not altogether interesting, it's just posts with the same "tags" as your posts.

I don't know where to find a top rated list. It's probably in a drop down menu somewhere. I read from my notifications list and respond when I feel like it. I also read the comments under my posts and respond to those most of the time.

@mom210 It's a good luck thing. They file out of the room and touch the top of the door jamb on the way out of the room. I've seen it on news videos for years.

In my very unscientific observations, it appears to me that I earn a little more when I "like" the posts than when I just leave comments. However, I cannot say that with absolute authority. It takes so little time to like a comment and/or a post, I always try to remember to do it.

@JamesHxstatic I have since learned that we are paid for Likes, so if someone does like something, they should LIKE it.

I have to agree with you. I just read almost all the comments you received. I am irked when people forget to like my discussion when they leave a comment, but more irked when I just get a bunch of likes on my comments on other discussions. I still don't know if it's a good or bad thing, but I do it myself.

I don't remember if we get paid based on "likes" or not, but I'm so used to pressing that button in other venues that it's automatic for me. I'd rather someone know for sure that I bother to like what they've written, regardless of payment.

Well, y'know, I'm like confused about that too. I recall reading in a post by someone that the likes have to do with increasing that number next to your name which, I guess, is like some kind of rating thingy. Yours is like really high! Anyway, I like likes and generally like before I comment.
